44th Anniversary Persian Carpet Sale – Thursday-Sunday – Bargain hunt at The Persian Carpet’s annual carpet sale, featuring rugs of all sizes marked 30-75% off their original price. 

Shop & Share – Thursday, 10am-7pm – Shop at Bull City Fair Tradeand 10% of your purchase will be donated to Durham CROP Walk, the annual fundraiser benefiting Church World Service and local agencies fighting against hunger.  

‘Disney Junior Holiday Party’ – Thursday, 6pm – Sing and dance with your family to Disney Junior songs and holiday classics during a live concert at DPAC. Santa Claus and Disney favorites, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Puppy Dog Pals, will be a part of the tour to help celebrate the holiday season. 

Community and Scholars Series: Writing Soccer – Thursday, 7pm – The Regulator Bookshop hosts a panel of accomplished soccer writers, including Joshua Nadel, Grant Farred, Laurent Dubois and Brenda J. Elsey. 

Artist Talk – Thursday, 7-9pm – Join this discussion about the ability of photography to capture the present with photographer Daniel Shea and Interim Dean of the College of Architecture at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Walter Benn Michaels at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.

Coco Montoya Performance – Thursday, 8pm – The blues-rock guitarist and vocalist will perform at The Blue Note Grill. Coco, who played with Albert Collins and John Mayall, released his new album, “Coming in Hot,” in August.

Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin – Thursday, 8pm – The Grammy Award winners and longtime friends perform as an acoustic duo, swap and share stories at The Carolina Theatre.

Art from the Earth: Painting with Minerals – Friday, 10-11:30am – Children ages 6 to 10 can learn the importance of minerals and make mineral paints at the Museum of Life and Science. After making their own paints, participants get to use them for a collaborative art piece in Studio Earth

Happy Hour – Friday, 5:30-6:30pm – Grab a signature cocktail created by St. James Seafood, check off some holiday shopping with free monogramming by Lotuff Leather and listen to artist, activist and teacher Dasan Ahanu talk about his journey and the impact of art in our community at Vert & Vogue

Third Friday at the Durham Arts Council – Friday, 6-8 pm – Join the opening of the visual art exhibition, “Material/Process,” which features works combining various media from five artists: Reni Gower, Deborah Kruger, Jackie MacLeod, Holden Richards and Gibby Waitzkin

Tanya Tucker – Friday, 7:30pm – The country singer will perform songs from her new album, “While I’m Livin,’” at The Carolina Theatre. Rolling Stone Country says, “The singer’s comeback album recalls similarly inspiring LPs by Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson.”

Lewis Black – Friday, 8pm – The Grammy Award-winning stand-up comedian, known for his angry and hilarious tirades, and special guest Jeff Stilson take the stage at DPAC

Open Mic Stand-Up Comedy Night – Friday, 8pm – Head to Durty Bull Brewing Company for beer, dinner and its weekly comedy show hosted by Rob Schneider Comedy (not that one).

Alonzo King Lines Ballet – Friday and Saturday, 8pm – The choreographer and his company return to Reynolds Industries Theater to perform its 2018 world premiere “Common Ground” and the repertory classic by “Handel” in this Duke Performances show.

G Yamazawa’s Birthday Bash – Friday, 8pm – The spoken word poet, rapper and Durham native performs at Motorco Music Hall with DJs Paradime and Gemynii.

Smitten Boutique Holiday Open House – Saturday, 10am-6pm – Celebrate the start of the holiday season by shopping for some new women’s fashion finds with storewide discounts, raffles and gifts with purchase. 

Sketching in the Galleries – Saturday, 10:15am-12:15pm – Durham native and Duke visiting instructor Stephen Hayes begins with a drawing demonstration and then moves throughout the galleries at Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University to support the participants, age 8 and older, with their sketches. 

Movember Chili Cook-Off – Saturday, 2-4pm – The Duke University MoDukes host a cook-off to benefit the Movember Foundation at Bull City Ciderworks.  

African American Cemeteries: Remembering, Reclaiming, Resisting – Saturday, 3:30-5pm – The Friends of Geer Cemetery hosts a community awareness forum at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics about the history and reclamation efforts of Geer Cemetery as well as its context in African American cemeteries nationwide. Historians, journalists and activists will speak at the forum, including: William Sturkey, Kami Fletcher, Brian Palmer and Erin Hollaway Palmer. 

Fourth Annual Iron Pour at Durham Central Park – Saturday, 4-9pm – Don’t miss the fiery display by Liberty Arts and Durham Central Park when they pour 4,000 pounds of molten iron into molds, creating iron tiles designed by the public and North Carolina artists. There will also be craft beer, local food trucks and performances by Batalá Durham

Two Artist Pop-Up Show – Saturday, 5-7pm – Meet sculptural jewelry artist Sarah West and potter Evelyn Ward at Horse & Buggy Press and Friends. Their pieces will be on display during normal Saturday gallery hours, 11am-2pm, but don’t miss the chance to meet the artists during the reception. 

‘Durham: A Self-Portrait 150’ – Saturday, 6pm – In recognition of the city’s 150th anniversary, The Carolina Theatre plays host to an updated version of the film “Durham: A Self Portrait.” This version features a new epilogue that highlights the changes in Durham since the film’s original release in 2008.

Kansas – Saturday, 7:30pm – The progressive rock band performs at DPAC as part of their tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of their album “Point of Know Return.” The band will perform all of the songs from their “Point of Know Return” album, as well as other hit songs and fan favorites. 

‘Passion for Bach and Coltrane’ – Saturday, 8pm – Imani Winds and Harlem Quartet perform a combination of poetry and music composed by Imani Winds member Jeff Scott at Baldwin Auditorium in this Duke Performances concert.

4th annual Holiday Open House – Sunday, noon-4pm – Bull City Olive Oil Co. kicks off the holiday season with its annual event, featuring specials, food and prosecco. 

‘The Gutfeld Monologues’ Live with Greg Gutfeld – Sunday, 7pm – The host of “The Greg Gutfeld Show,” co-host of “The Five” on Fox News, and author of “The Gutfeld Monologues” will be at DPAC with special guest Tom Shillue for a hilarious evening and engaging conversation about topics from his book that cover everything from politics to pop culture.
