Lending a hand to those in need is what this season of giving is all about. In our holiday issue, we’ve focused on eight health care heroes who provide care and compassion year-round in their various professions: a vigilant pediatrician and opthamologist; a musician turning personal tragedy into aid for others; a psychiatrist focusing on an underserved segment of our population and more. The dedication and passion they demonstrate within their fields exemplifies our fitting moniker, the City of Medicine. We hope you’ll find as much inspiration in their stories as we did.

Elsewhere in the issue you’ll find the masterfully organized Croasdaile Farm home of the Siegels, plus tips for how to recreate spaces in your home; a wedding guide that includes tales and trends to help you plan your own Bull City wedding; and a holiday gift guide.

In addition to our feature stories, our events and community editor Dana Lange highlights the good work happening at The Threshold Clubhouse, we get to know local singer-songwriter Skylar Gudasz (who’s about to release her first full-length solo album), and we share our latest Durham obsessions: Spoonflower‘s new design handbook, Canvas on Demand‘s coloring canvases and Crocodile Creek toys. And we introduce our new section, Big Stars in the Bull City, showcasing celebrity sightings in the city, like Questlove at Dame’s and John Cleese at the Duke Lemur Center.

The magazine, which is complimentary, can be found on newsstands at Sam’s Quik ShopWhole FoodsThe Regulator Bookshop, Parker & OtisFoster’s MarketGuglhupf, Toast and many other locations.
