Kovu is sweet and sensitive and loves to play with other dogs. In fact, he arrived at the Animal Protection Society of Durham with a canine friend and is always happy to join play group and see other friends on his daily walks. He can be a little nervous when it comes to humans, but staff at the shelter believe that with time and a little bit of patience, Kovu will wiggle his way into your life, and your heart will never be the same. His manners could use some work, like four-on-the-floor training and knowing that he’s safe to have his own peanut butter and treats. Adoption fees for dogs and puppies typically range from $125-$175. This includes a basic medical exam and behavioral assessment, spay or neuter surgery, microchip implantation, rabies and other vaccinations, intestinal parasite check (with treatment, control and prevention), a heartworm test and deworming.
The Animal Protection Society of Durham, located at 2117 E. Club Blvd., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been helping animals in the community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. In addition to county funding, APS relies on donations from individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 7,000 stray, surrendered and abused animals it cares for each year.
