Refreshing Rosado

UnknownI often write about CVNE, the Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana. Spelled on the label as CUNE, I suppose the reasoning is to make it a pronounceable word. This is a modern company that respects the traditions of Rioja, yet is not afraid of technology; all the while producing affordable, yet typical, wines. This applies to their delicious rosé, (rosado), a 100% Tempranillo wine with the succulence and mouth-watering qualities that this grape provides in all of its permutations. If you like the idea of biting into fresh watermelon, but don’t want the sugar rush, this wine is for you!

2013 Cune Rioja Rosado, DOCa, Spain $12-14 srp

Color of a very ripe strawberry. The bouquet is redolent of raspberry, watermelon and a hint of red currant. Freshly cut roses add delight to the subsequent sniffs. The mouth is surprisingly full within the pantheon of rosés, with watermelon flavors continuing onto a crisply structured, balanced wine. A bit of spice adds lift to its refreshingly dry finish. Year in and out, one of the finest rosés for the money. Drink now-2016.
