Annual Rothschild Lecture with Artist Hank Willis Thomas – Thursday, 7pm – The prolific conceptual artist who lives and works in New York City, will deliver the Annual Barbra and Andrew Rothschild Lecture at the Nasher Museum, a talk entitled, “For Freedoms.” His work is featured in the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University‘s “Southern Accent” exhibit.
Rebirth Brass Brand – Thursday, 8pm – This Grammy-winning, New Orleans-based band upholds the sounds of traditional brass bands while infusing funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. Their groove-laden collection “Move Your Body” is sure to get up on the dance floor at Motorco Music Hall.
‘Little Me Time’ Album Release – Thursday, 8pm – Charles Latham celebrates the release of his latest album “Little Me Time” with a pre-release show at The Pinhook alongside artists John Howie Jr. & the Rosewood Bluff.

Kaira Ba & The Beast present: A Party for Blackspace – Friday, 8pm – The Beast and Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba team up at Motorco Music Hall to raise money for Blackspace, an afrofuturist hub for digital media and social entrepreneurship in Durham. Samba reggae producers Batala Durham and afrofuturist puppeteer Tarish Jeghetto Pipkins join in as well.

Afrofuturism Series – Saturday, 3:30pm – The Hayti Heritage Center continues its Afrofuturist series by celebrating the first families of Afrofuturism and a discussion of the cosmos-logic of Sun-Ra’s music at the Hayti Heritage Center. The event is free and attendees are asked to come in Afrofuturist costume and/or as a comic book characters to the program, which will be judged by the audience.
Bulletproof: A Campaign to Trigger Change – Saturday, 5-9pm – To raise awareness and financial support, RUNAWAY is releasing the Bulletproof capsule collection tonight at Ninth Street Bakery. Half of all proceeds will benefit North Carolinians Against Gun Violence, a nonprofit founded in 1993 that is “dedicated to reducing gun death and injury” through legislative action, community initiatives, firearm education and youth empowerment. Music provided by DJ Bro-Rabb. Ninth Street Bakery will also donate half of their proceeds from the evening to the campaign.
Odd Squad Live – Saturday, 6pm – Based on the PBS Kids series, brand new agents Orian and Oleanna take the kiddos on a live, interactive adventure at DPAC. With help from Ms. O back at headquarters, kids will put their STEM skills to the test and decode, decipher and unravel clues to stop villains like Father Time and Lady Terrible.
Night in the Woods Benefit Gala & Auction – Saturday, 6:30-10:30pm – Meet wildlife ambassadors and celebrate nature with wild cocktails, live music, heavy hors d’oeurves, and many silent and live auction items at this benefit for the Piedmont Wildlife Center at the Levin Jewish Community Center. Proceeds support scholarships for outdoor camps, gives permanent homes to non-releasable wildlife, helps conserve box turtles and more.
Pacifica Quartet – Saturday, 8pm – The Grammy-winning ensemble returns to Duke Performances at Baldwin Auditorium with a cello quintet, and are joined by cellist Johannes Moser. The concert pairs contrasting cello quintets, one classical and one contemporary. The newer piece is a world premiere from Julia Wolfe, winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her oratorio Anthracite Fields. The classical offering is Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major.
James “Saxsmo” Gates – Saturday, 8pm – After a sold-out show in 2013, Beyu Caffe brings back one of the most talented sax players on the East Coast.
Family Weekend Concert: Duke Music Ensembles – Saturday, 8-9:30pm – The Duke Wind Symphony, Duke Chorale and Duke Symphony Orchestra team up for a wonderful night of music in Duke Chapel.

‘Keeping the Vision Alive’ Second Annual Benefit Concert – Sunday, 6pm – NCCU Jazz Studies presents “Keeping the Vision Alive,” the second annual benefit concert, featuring Ellis Marsalis and Marcus Anderson as well as NCCU Jazz Ensemble and NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble at The Carolina Theatre. The proceeds will benefit the continuation of the NCCU Jazz Studies program.
Ciompi Concert No. 2 – Sunday, 7pm – For this all-Mozart performance at Baldwin Auditorium the ensemble joins a frequent collaborator, clarinetist Allan Ware, to perform one of Mozart’s most beloved works for one of the composer’s favorite instruments, the clarinet. Then, the Ciompi become the “orchestra” for the Piano Concerto No. 13, with Swiss pianist Olivier Cavé as soloist.
Beer and Hymns – Sunday, 7:30pm – Head to Fullsteam Brewery for a night of “good times, fellowship, nostalgia and more good times” led by Jesse James DeConto of local band The Pinkerton Raid.
Bill Engvall – Sunday, 7:30pm – Blue Collar Comedy is back as one of the top comedians in the country takes the stage at DPAC.
