vs-2015-gw-sig-series-mainlgYears ago, there was a wine advertisement that stated: “If you can say ‘Gundlach Bundschu Gewürztraminer’ three times quickly, we’ll give you a free bottle!” I sometimes wonder how many people avoid drinking this fragrantly rich wine because they simply can’t get past the name? Sonoma County, California produces excellent examples, and this time of year is perfect for getting to know their charms. Today’s wine, from Viansa Sonoma, will complement a traditional Thanksgiving meal (among other things) with flair and an enveloping texture.

2015 Gewürztraminer, Viansa Sonoma Classic Series $22 srp

Lovely golden color with flecks of reddish tinge. A heady, fiercely fragrant bouquet. Flowery, like a Riesling, but more overtly powerful with rose petal and citrus elements. The mouth texture is creamy with a hint of pear. It’s opulent with a generous glycerin feel. Altogether ripe and refreshing with a touch of end sweetness. Drink with all manner of smoked fish, an onion-leek tart and creamy soups. Drink now-2017.
