PopUp Durham at American Tobacco – Thursday & Friday, 11:30am-2:30pm – The PopUp at American Tobacco Campus, which regularly features new entrepreneurs and their concepts, opens again with plant-based food with an emphasis on local and gluten-free ingredients from Soul Cocina and European-style treats like bonbon bars, brittles, pralines and caramels by Chocolatay Confections. These vendors will be in the space till February 22.

Chinese New Year – Through February 28 – Ring in the Chinese New Year by enjoying a fixed, five-course menu including appetizers, soup, entrees, dim sum and dessert at G.58 Modern Chinese.

Community Show: Rupture / Rapture / Revolution – Thursday-Saturday – The seven-year tradition of The Carrack‘s community art show continues through this weekend, depicting themes from climate change and Internet surveillance to student debt and Instagram robots. There will be PROMPTS and live electronic music Friday, beginning at 7pm.

The Talk – Thursday, 7:30pm; Friday and Saturday, 8pm; and Sunday, 2pm – A virtuosic one-man show at Durham Fruit and Produce Co. about the difficult conversation a father must have with his son in a racially divided America.

Bert Kreischer – Thursday, 7pm and 9:30pm – The stand-up comedian, actor, writer and host will be at The Carolina Theatre this Thursday. Bert works on two podcasts, a YouTube show and a special on Netflix. His comedy gives a hilarious perspective on being a husband and father.

Lil Duval – Thursday, 8pm – Comedian and singer of the hit song “Smile (Living My Best Life)” comes to DPAC. Lil Duval brings a blend of comedy and music to his stand-up.

APS Valentine’s Photo Shoot – Friday, 4-8pm – Looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for the animal lover in your life? Or maybe you just really love your pet? Come to Barley Labs for a beer and a photo shoot with Alycat Photo & Video Services with your loved ones (human or animal). Just $25 dollars for a 15-minute, Valentine-themed shoot, and the proceeds benefit our local animal shelter! Cash, credit, Paypal and checks will be accepted, and the pictures will be emailed to you before the February 14.

What the “L”? – Friday, 7pm – This musical performance by Ellen Ciompi features songs entirely written and composed by people with “L” in their names. Part of The Regulator Bookshop’s annual Valentine’s Cabaret.

An Evening of Entertainment – Friday, 7:30pm – The DPS Scholarship Foundation and Durham Public Schools present their spectacular music showcase, An Evening of Entertainment, at DPAC. The event features 500 talented choral and dance students while raising funds for college scholarships for DPS seniors.

The Second City – Friday, 8pm – Catch the world-famous comedy company’s latest laughter-inducing undertaking, “It’s Not You, It’s Me” at The Carolina Theatre.

Ruby Friday – Friday, 8pm – Students involved in the Calla Campaign will talk about how a new medical device became the basis for an exhibit focused on self-exploration and what was learned along the way. The presentation of the Callascope, developed by Duke biomedical engineering students, takes place at the Rubenstein Arts Center.

H.C. McEntire & Blue Cactus – Friday, 8pm – Experience a new version of country music that reclaims the genre from the “homogeneous schtick of tailgates and six-packs and men chasing women.” McEntire plays songs from her new album, “LIONHEART,” at Motorco Music Hall.

Manual Cinema – Friday and Saturday, 8pm – The Chicago collective, with its mesmerizing shadow-puppet spectacles, blends techniques from animation and film and performs with original music. The group launches its Duke Performances residency with Ada/Ava – an homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock, a ghost story and a lovelorn tale – at Reynolds Industries Theater.

Two-Year Anniversary – Saturday, noon – Join Beer Study in celebrating their second year in business. There will be a taco bar from NanaTacos early in the day, a Deadpool tourney, Skeeball tourney and air hockey tourney, and a pizza/wing bar starting at 7pm. Two new Starpoint beers will be released.

Open House at The Carrack – Saturday, 2-5pm – If you’re an artist, art lover or just passionate about equity in the arts, you might be interested in joining The Carrack. The art space hosts this open house to meet potential new volunteers and staff.

‘Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom’ – Saturday, 3pm – Stop by The Regulator Bookshop to meet author David Blight, professor of American history and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition at Yale University. He discusses his new book, “Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom,” alongside UNC professor Kathleen DuVal.

Disney DCappella – Saturday, 7:30pm – DCappella, Disney Music Group’s new a cappella group, performs at DPAC. Created by Disney and a cappella star Deke Sharon (“Pitch Perfect,” “The Sing Off” and more), the tour features seven world-class vocalists, for fans of both Disney and a cappella, with modern versions of Disney hits.

The Crossing – Saturday, 8pm – At Duke Performances, 12 singers from the GRAMMY-winning Philadelphia chamber choir, led by conductor Donald Nally, perform composer David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, “The Little Match Girl Passion,” at Baldwin Auditorium.

The Fab Four – Saturday, 8pm – Emmy Award-winning Beatles tribute band returns to The Carolina Theatre.

Metal Pole Mayhem – Saturday, 9pm – Dancers, aerial acts and burlesque performers entertain to the sounds of electric guitars and rock ‘n’ roll music at Motorco Music Hall.

Triangle eSports Championship – Sunday, 11am – TEC 2019 brings together esports enthusiasts and gamers of all ages to compete in the Triangle’s first charitable gaming tournament. The main events – tournaments in Rocket League and Fortnite – take place throughout the day at Durham Armory.

Upcycled with Love: Alternative Gift Making Workshop – Sunday, 1-4pm – Join The Scrap Exchange to make Valentine’s Day gifts/cards for your friends and loved ones. Drop in, or stay the whole time. Projects will be available for kids and adults. Some projects include: upcycling mason jars and tins, card making, decorative flags, small wooden signs, leather heart-shaped key chains, leather bookmarks, scrappy jewelry. All materials will be provided.

TVF Valentine’s Pop Up Market – Sunday, 1-4pm – Pick up a vegan treat or gift for your Valentine and yourself at Fullsteam. Pure Soul will serve brunch, and vendors will showcase treats and products. There will be Chocolate Calling chocolates and The Naked Vegan Soap Company products. A $5 suggested donation goes toward Triangle Vegfest and making these events happen.

Motorco Madness: A Benefit for E.K. Powe Elementary – Sunday, 1-5pm – The second annual Motorco Madness is a family-friendly benefit concert for the E.K. Powe PTA. Also performing are The Beast and Nancy Middleton.

Love Market 2019 – Sunday, 3-7pm – Bull City Ciderworks hosts an afternoon of artisans and vendors selling their Valentine-specific crafts.

POD Tour America – Sunday, 7:30pm – Pod Save America performs a live, no-nonsense conversation about politics, the press and more at DPAC.
