I am a sucker for Johnny Cash’s music, his image, his story. Marrying a Cash certainly only added to my interest in this music legend.
And so I look forward to heading to DPAC next week to see, for the first time, “Million Dollar Quartet.” It’s the high voltage Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that was inspired by the phenomenal true story of the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time.
(On Dec. 4, 1956, Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” who was responsible for launching the careers of each icon, gathered the four musicians at the Sun Records storefront studio in Memphis for one of the greatest jam sessions in history.)
“Million Dollar Quartet” – featuring timeless hits like “Blue Suede Shoes,” “That’s All Right,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “See Ya Later, Alligator,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and more – returns to Durham for two nights only on April 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are still available at the DPAC Ticket Center, all Ticketmaster outlets, by visiting dpacnc.com, or by calling 919-680-2787.
