Each week, we share – through pictures – what the folks behind Durham Mag have been doing around town. We’re always out and about, just because we love this place; we hope you’ll comment with what you’ve been doing, too!
Counting House
Did you know that Counting House is now offering lunch every Monday-Friday from 11am–2pm? VP of Content Andrea Griffith Cash enjoyed a business lunch – a chopped salad with chicken – at the the recently opened restaurant in the new 21c Museum Hotel. Other menu items include beets tartare, marinated mussels and seared salmon and mushroom bolognese.
Zinburger
The next day, Andrea had a more indulgent lunch at Zinburger. Life’s all about balance, right?
Pie Pushers
Associate Editor Amanda MacLaren completed her first Fullsteam Ahead! run with the Bull City Running Co.‘s run club and, like many of her fellow runners, could not resist a slice of Pie Pushers afterwards. Whether you join in the run or not, you can find the truck outside Fullsteam every Wednesday evening starting around 5pm.
Dress for Success Donations
Andrea cleaned out some closets over the long weekend. Here are just a few of the items she donated to Dress for Success of the Triangle. (They don’t just need business suits – business casual items are welcome!)
Dress for Success
Our whole team spent last Wednesday volunteering at the Dress for Success warehouse in Northgate Mall. We sorted through donation items and helped organize racks for their upcoming Excess Sale in August!
Dain’s Place
Listen to the smiley-face sign, folks! Dain’s Place has one of the best Reuben sandwiches around! Car not included.
Durham Bulls
We all know Bulls games are one of the staples of a Durham summer, and last Friday proved to be yet another gorgeous evening for baseball! Check out the photos in our June/July issue and web extra for more pics of the Bulls!
Durham Co-op Market
We all love indulging in hot dogs and beer at the ballpark, but now you can grab a healthy snack, too! The Durham Co-op Market‘s fruit stand made its debut at last Friday’s game. Options include paper cups of blueberries, grapes, strawberries and slices of watermelon and pineapple!
Saltbox Seafood
Reasons why Creative Director Kevin Brown loves Saturdays include crab grits and red drum at Saltbox Seafood Joint.
Lo & Behold
Durham-based skincare line Lo & Behold teamed up with LoMo Market to host a pop-up shop at LoMo’s headquarters on Hood Street on Saturday. From lip balm to cuticle cream to body scrubs, this local product has you covered from head to toe!
LoMo Market
Have you ever stepped inside LoMo Market? This mini grocery store on wheels makes stops all around the Triangle nearly every day of the week so that you can easily stock up on fresh, local produce, meats, dairy and artisan goods.
Bull City Ciderworks
Amanda spotted this homage to our annual Taste event at Bull City Ciderworks on Saturday. The cidery brought some of their refreshing Off Main cider to our launch party in April, and it’s still one of our faves! (Though you also have to try their new strawberry-honey cider when you get the chance!)
Alivia’s Durham Bistro
After spending the morning shopping and sipping cider, Amanda grabbed a breakfast burrito from Alivia’s Durham Bistro for brunch on Saturday.
Old Havana Sandwich Shop
For a delicious Cuban brunch, Kevin knows that Old Havana Sandwich Shop is spot to be!
Cosmic Cantina
Amanda’s boyfriend, Evan, can certainly put away some food, but even he was no match for the giant chicken chimichanga at Cosmic Cantina. A to-go box was necessary.
Art Institute Culinary Students
The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham‘s culinary students hosted a chef-inspired dinner, which included this course with textures of beets with coffee and cherries inspired by French Chef Anne-Sophie Pic.
