Stuff We Like: Bull City Burgers, Beer and Cider

Each week, we share – through pictures – what the folks behind Durham Mag have been doing around town. We’re always out and about, just because we love this place; we hope you’ll comment with what you’ve been doing, too!

Hummingbird Bakery

20151022_151320_resizedAssociate Editor Amanda MacLaren‘s new favorite spot to get a little work done is Hummingbird Bakery. Not only do they offer big mugs of delicious pumpkin spice lattes, but the cupcakes are to die for! This peanut butter/chocolate combo cured those sweet tooth cravings immediately.

Chet Miller

Chet MillerJennings Brody, owner of downtown favorite Parker and Otis, puts the finishing touches on a display at her newly opened Chet Miller shop on Parrish Street. Turns out the store is named after her grandfather, whose framed photo hangs next to his name at the entrance.

Bull City Ciderworks

20151022_172722_resizedIt’s the cider life for Amanda! Make sure you get a taste of Bull City Ciderworks seasonal Jack & Oak — a combination pumpkin, caramelized organic cane sugar, vanilla bean and cinnamon with semi-sweet cider aged on light American oak — before it’s gone!

Pizzeria Toro

20151022_135658_resizedNext time you’re grabbing lunch with a pal, split a salad (the Tuscan kale is our fave!) and pie, like this white pizza with chanterelles, at Pizzeria Toro.

Ponysaurus

20151024_165627_resizedWe’re you one of the more than 3,000 (!) people who attended Ponysaurus‘ grand opening on Saturday? Live music, a plethora of food trucks and plenty of beer flowing from many taps kept the party going well into the evening!

A Chef’s Life

PicShellsWe were glued to UNC-TV on Thursday night as “A Chef’s Life” and its star Vivian Howard paid a visit to Durham. It was so cool seeing Amy Tornquist, Ricky Moore, Gray Brooks and other Bull City faves on screen! If you missed this Durham-centric episode (featured ingredient: honey), you can watch it online.

Thai Cafe

Thai SoupEvery time VP of Content Andrea Griffith Cash goes to Thai Cafe, she wonders why she doesn’t go more often. So good!

Bull City Burger and Brewery

20151027_123503_resizedAmanda is a sucker for the pimento cheese and kale dip at Bull City Burger. If you haven’t tried this app yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Bull City Burger and Brewery

20151027_124839_resizedOf course, you can’t got to BCBB and not get a burger. Amanda loves to add goat cheese and aioli to hers, and some lettuce. Gotta get that daily serving of veggies somehow!

Mattie B’s

IMG_2862Andrea is no football fan, but she can get on board with Sunday game day food. This week, she headed to Mattie B’s for a beer, South of the Border chips and a Mattie Melt.
