An intimate dinner with up to 75 guests will be hosted by renowned Durham chef Amy Tornquist at her restaurant Watts Grocery, which is well known for its focus on local agriculture and Southern flavors. Amy will create a menu based upon and inclusive of dishes that have been created, cultivated and perfected in North Carolina over the past two centuries. If we’re lucky, we may just get a taste of her famous caramel cake for dessert! Courses will be paired with wines.
In addition, a special guest speaker will give a narrative of the history of North Carolina cuisine.
A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. The Durham branch serves over 96,000 individuals who are at risk for hunger; about one-third of those are children.
In 2014, Taste the Event fed over 17,000 hungry people in our community. In 2015, we want to do more!
