Fittingly Named Pinot Noir Ideal for Valentine’s Day

HopeValleyBottleShop_BannerSPEC2012-loveblock-pinot-noir1Loveblock is a most fortunate name to help celebrate this Valentine’s Day. This is a project headed up by dynamic wine guru Kim Crawford, whose name is synonymous with the international rise of New Zealand wines. His name on the label today though is only a brand. (It was sold off to the Vincor Corporation of Canada.) But “Loveblock” is Crawford’s own and newest wine venture, and today’s Pinot Noir is quite a mouthful to ponder. Made in the Central Otago district on New Zealand’s South Island, the grapes are grown in a single vineyard named “Someone’s Darling;” and the richness and intensity of this wine summons up a youthful and passionate response for your Valentine!

2012 Loveblock Pinot Noir, Central Otago $37 srp*

A transparent, crimson color. The nose on this decidedly wild Pinot Noir is reminiscent of strawberry, raspberry and tart cherries with overtones including windswept sweet earth, wildflower, coffee and tallow. Flavors are medium-bodied and elegant, with sweet berry elements surrounded by spice, savory herbs and a balanced, intense finish. Can improve, but is a heady delight today. Drink now-2019.
