The Brothers Vilgalys Spirits Company was founded in 2012 – Durham’s first distillery – with a simple mission: to make delicious booze. And that they have done. In addition to their well-known Krupnikas Spiced Honey Liqueur, they recently added four new liqueurs to the mix: Zaphod, Beebop, Beatnik and Jabberwock. The magic happens out of a 1,300 square foot location in downtown Durham where they offer weekly tours and complimentary tastings.
Beginning October 1, the company will be allowed to sell their products to those touring the facilities. Although these sales are limited to one bottle per person per year, this is still a huge step forward after a four-year effort from many N.C. distilleries. Brothers Vilgalys has launched a crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter to raise money, which will allow them to hire more staff and double the size of their current facility, and add a tasting room and event space. With hours left and over $16,000 of their $20,000 targeted goal raised already, any donation is welcomed.
