Phoenix is a sweet, timid and insecure pup who’s been at the Animal Protection Society of Durham since August, waiting to find a home. She really enjoys affection once she’s comfortable with people – and can have a true case of the zoomies when she gets outside! She can get distracted easily and can be grabby with treats, but Phoenix is a great walking buddy. She’s looking for a forever home that will help her build confidence and help her learn. Visit Phoenix at APS of Durham today to find out if she’s a good match for you!

To set up a virtual visit or to adopt, send adoption forms to [email protected]. To view Phoenix’s webpage, visit Same-day adoptions are now available in the shelter!

Adoption fees for dogs and puppies typically range from $125-$175. This includes a basic medical exam and behavioral assessment, spay or neuter surgery, microchip implantation, rabies and other vaccinations, intestinal parasite check (with treatment, control and prevention), a heart worm test and deworming.

The Animal Protection Society of Durham, located at 2117 E. Club Blvd., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been helping animals in the community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. In addition to county funding, APS relies on donations from individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 7,000 stray, surrendered and abused animals it cares for each year. The shelter is open Mon.-Tue. and Thu.-Fri., 10:30am-5pm; Wed. 10:30am-6pm; and Sat. 10am-2pm. For more information, call 919-560-0640 or visit
