So, what kind of a rosé drinker are you? Do you like a sweet sipper? Do you want it as a food wine? Do you like it bone-dry as they do in Provence? Or perhaps somewhere in between? The latter represents today’s example; dry enough to refresh, but not so dry as to require food to be enjoyable. It’s Rodney Strong Rosé of Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. Both the wine’s brilliant color and the “pretty” label are consumer magnets – but what’s inside really delivers! A beautiful expression of the grape, and its lower alcohol (12.5%) seems to enhance its freshness and vigor. We enjoyed it all alone and with a Tandoori chicken dish.
2017 Rodney Strong Rosé of Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley $25 srp
Pretty and bright, light pink color. An entrancing, floral nose with strawberry, melon and grapefruit elements. Rather mouth watering. Flavors are light, crisp and tasting of strawberry, peach and orange peel. Wonderful acidity inhabits the clean finish. Great now but could easily keep a couple of years. Try with shellfish, poultry or a quinoa salad with fruit slices.
