Their Gran Reserva is one of this country’s best Malbec-based blends. Their “Obra” line is also a reserve, but made up of 100% pure varietals; today’s wine is Malbec. From the Luján de Cuyo district, in the upper reaches (4,000 feet!) of Mendoza province, this is an exciting expression of this ancient grape. The market is flooded with decent, everyday Malbec. Today, try one that will really get you excited. Cool nights are still with us. This will fill the bill nicely.

2013 Septima Obra, Malbec, Luján de Cuyo $22 srp

Opaque purple/violet color. Dark fruits emerge in an earthy, spicy nose with notes of vanilla, cedar, saddle leather, bay leaf and cocoa. Flavors are medium-bodied, but with a mouth-filling generousness. Elements of blackberry compote and a chocolatey finish combine with excellent balance and acidity. (Aged 10-12 months in American oak.) Drink now-2019.
