9th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser – Thursday, 5:30-7:30pm – Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) hosts this event, presented this year by United Therapeutics, to raise much-needed funds to help UMD serve more than 241,000 meals a year to those in need. Attendees get to sample soups prepared by more than a dozen local restaurants and can vote for their favorite. The light dinner of soup is a reminder that many people in Durham do not have enough to eat. Local artists and artisans have donated their talents to create 800+ hand-crafted bowls for attendees to pick and take home. There is also a panel of celebrity judges who vote, and the evening will feature live jazz music from Moment’s Notice. The hosts of The Lowdown Show, Matthew and Tracey Coppedge, will emcee the event. Last year’s Empty Bowls event raised over $66,708. This year the goal is to raise $80,000. 21st Annual Sweet Arts Art Auction And Fundraiser – Friday, 7-10pm – The major annual fundraiser for the Durham Art Guild, this event will feature a live and silent auction of artwork as well as non-art goodies, experiences and more. Durham Bulls Fan Fest – Saturday, noon-3pm – Fans will have exclusive access to one of the most celebrated ballparks in Minor League Baseball. Take batting practice and play catch on the field. The box office will be open during the event, selling tickets for individual games including Opening Day on April 15 and the Fourth of July.
