Nasher Creates: Kids Studio – Thursday, 10:15am-noon – Family and kids ages 5-10 are welcome to this free drop-in creative workshop located at The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.
Durham Night Market – Thursday, 5:30-10:30pm – Kick off summer with more than 40 local vendors – plus, food trucks, live music, wine and beer – at the Durham Night Market at Pine & Poplar at The Wine Feed.
Durham History Trolley Tour – Thursday, 6-7:15pm – From historic Downtown Durham to the former Lakewood Amusement Park hear stories on Old Durham, its people and the places where they lived, worked and played. The Durham150 committee and The Great Raleigh Trolley sponsors the event.
The Monti StorySLAM: Fever – Thursday, 6:30-7:30pm – Motorco Music Hall hosts an open competitive, storytelling event, for ages 18 and up, where anyone has a chance to tell their story. At each event, there will be judges in the audience and eight storytellers chosen at random. Each story is five minutes long; one winner will be declared at the end of the night.
Adult Summer Camp – Thursday, 6:30-10pm – Release your inner child and relive the experience of making friendship bracelets, hitting the target with archery, racing your friends to the top of a climbing wall, making s’mores and creating a perler bead masterpiece, but do this all while enjoying your favorite adult beverages. This camp experience is located at the Museum of Life and Science.
One Giant Leap: 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 – Friday, 8-10pm – Durham Parks and Recreation is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing by visiting the Environmental Education Pavilion to meet with NASA ambassadors and other local experts to learn about what it took to get to the moon and also take in views of the night sky. This event is free and open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Super/Natural: Stories of Science and the Unknown – Friday, 8-10pm – Explore the mysteries of the world’s known and unknown at this free outdoor community listening event on the lawn at the Duke Center for Documentary Studies. In case of bad weather, the show will be rescheduled for Aug. 2.
PLAYlist Concert Series: Bull City All-Stars Drumline w/ Caroline Brodie & K-Hill – Friday, 7-9pm – Hillside High School’s Mighty Marching Hornets drumline, Bull City Music School’s drumline DJ K-Hill and tap dancer Caroline Brodie will put on a free show at Durham Central Park (rain or shine!).
Tea Cup Gin at Mayton Inn! – Friday, 6-9pm – Dance to blues and jazz while indulging on family-style buffet meals and cocktails on the veranda of the Mayton Inn for the third event of this fun and romantic series.
Volunteer @ Merrick Moore Elementary School – Saturday, 10am-noon – Volunteer with Bull City Classrooms to help clear out, sort, organize and move items from 20 closets located throughout Merrick-Moore Elementary. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.
Poptailpalooza! – Saturday, noon-8pm – Relieve the hot summer days with icy cold popsicles and meads from Locopops and Honeygirl Meadery. There will be non-alcoholic options available.
Fotos y Recuerdos – Saturday, 10pm-2am – Mamis & the Papis and Arcana hosts this summer throwback filled with school dance jams, walkmans, drinks and, of course, dancing, to provide a nostalgic evening for the whole community
Summer Patchwork Market – Sunday, noon-5pm – Support more than 60 local makers at the Durham Armory for an affordable, fun shopping experience.
Pop-Up with Conniption’s new Rosé Spritz – Sunday, 4-6pm – Taste Durham Distillery‘s new Conniption Gin Rosé Spritz – the newest addition to their Gin & Tonic and Cucumber Vodka Soda canned cocktails – at The Durham Hotel, which is offering half off oysters and raw bar.
Ponysaurus Brewing Co. Summer Movie Series – Sunday, 8-10:30pm – This summer movie series every Sunday, located at the Ponysaurus Brewing Co. includes a free flick on the patio, beer and $1 snacks. The hint for this Sunday’s movie screening is: “when your nanny is your dad.”
