
Christian Marclay: Surround Sounds Opening – Thursday, 10am-9pm – The artist drew inspiration from comic books for this interactive exhibit at Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. The large-scale, silent video installation depicts animated onomatopoeias in a dark room. Admission is free all day.
Fork & Bottle Dinner: The Kast Brothers – Thursday, 6-10pm – For the first Fork & Bottle Dinner of 2019, the 21c Museum Hotel welcomes the Kast Brothers for a tour of the museum’s current exhibits, a cocktail hour and dinner. Alex Kast is the Director of Chapel Hill Creamery, and Max Kast is the only Master Sommelier in the Southeast.
Community & Scholars: William Sturkey – Thursday, 7pm – The Regulator Bookshop hosts the author of “Hattiesburg: An American City in Black and White” for a reading and book signing. He will also be joined in conversation with author and activist Timothy Tyson.
Anoushka Shankar – Thursday, 8pm – She was the youngest person ever to be nominated for a World Music Grammy, and now the world-renowned sitarist takes the stage at The Carolina Theatre for an evening of her best creative work.
Jackson Browne – Friday, 8pm – The singer-songwriter performs an acoustic set at DPAC, accompanied by vocalists Althea Mills and Chavonne Stewart, and multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz.
Southern Culture On The Skids – Friday, 8pm – UNC graduate Rick Miller returns to his old stomping grounds with his band, which has been recording and touring since 1983. They bring their new album, “Bootleggers Choice,” to Motorco Music Hall for a night of classic rock ‘n’ roll.
An Evening with Nils Frahm – Friday, 8pm – The accomplished German composer and celebrated performer embarks on his first tour since 2015, visiting The Carolina Theatre with his “All Melody” Tour.
Kristin Clotfelter: ‘On You’ – Friday, 7pm and Saturday, 5pm – The dancer partners with Studio C Projects present “On You,” which portrays the improv exploration of dance performances. There are two opportunities to see the show at Monkey Bottom Collaborative.
The Great Human Race – Saturday, 9:30am – This fundraiser, a 5K run/walk and timed race that begins at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and winds through the Forest Hills neighborhood, benefits more than 100 nonprofit organizations. Celebrating 24 years, the race also features a dog walk and kids fun run, plus local performance artists, a marketplace and more.

Celtic Woman: ‘Ancient Land’ – Saturday, 7:30pm – The Grammy-nominated sensations are back with their “Ancient Land” tour at DPAC. The Irish tradition of storytelling through music comes to life on stage with beautiful songs and stage production.
Bull City Food & Beer Experience – Sunday, 4pm – This annual event features food from 30 of Durham’s best restaurants paired with 30 different breweries. Guests will get unlimited food and beer samplings throughout all three DPAC floors, and there will also be local food trucks. Proceeds benefit the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association.
Brain Week in the Lab – Sunday – Three bilingual UNC scientists will be on hand in the lab to celebrate the Museum of Life and Science‘s Durham Community Day. Visitors can examine a real brain and play memory games to test brain power.
Free Family Day at the Nasher – Sunday, noon-4pm – Free admission to the Nasher Museum of Art means fun activities that combine art and science! The museum partners with Duke University‘s science department and students to bring an exciting event in the afternoon.
