‘Dear Evan Hansen’ – Thursday, 7:30pm, Friday, 8pm, Saturday, 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, 1pm and 6:30pm – The six-time Tony Award-winning musical takes the stage at DPAC this weekend! The breakout musical focuses on one high schooler’s attempt to comfort the grieving family of a deceased classmate.
Durham Hosts Arbor Day Celebration – Friday, 10am-2pm – Grow your knowledge of trees and tree care as you help beautify Burton Park! The event will be hosted by the City of Durham General Services Department’s Urban Forestry Division, Keep Durham Beautiful, Durham Parks and Recreation and the Durham Housing Authority. Ten large ball and burlap trees will be planted on Sima Avenue. There will also be a reading of the Arbor Day proclamation at 10:30 by Council Member Javiera Caballero and brief comments from NC Forest Service. Volunteers will also help pick up litter and cut back invasive plants and vines in Burton Park to improve usability and make it safer and more accessible! Gloves, vests, tools and supplies will be provided. Spectators welcome. Those coming to volunteer should dress in long pants, wear layers for the weather, wear sturdy closed toe shoes, and bring a water bottle.

Drawing Democracy Pop-Up Exhibit – Friday, 6-8pm – Learn the history of gerrymandering in North Carolina with the Historians for a Better Future’s Drawing Democracy exhibit. The Third Friday event is part of the Museum of Durham History’s ongoing programming for the Louis Austin and The Carolina Times exhibit.

‘Portraits of Durham’ – Opening Reception – Friday, 6-8pm – Durham Arts Council invites the public to this free gallery exhibit showcasing work from 64 local artists. From students to accomplished professionals, each shares their interpretations of what defines Durham.
‘Embodiment – The Internal and External Conflict’ – Friday, 6-9pm – Join mixed media artist Ashley Swindoll for the opening night of her solo exhibit in the Cameron Gallery at The Scrap Exchange. Her work provokes audiences to reflect on their own emotional and mental wellness. The evening’s festivities include light snacks and drinks, as well as free art making in the Make and Take. The show runs through April 13!
‘Light Bag/Slight Baggage’ – Friday, 6-9pm – The Carrack hosts the Third Friday Reception for traveling artists Logan Britt and Tedd Anderson’s new exhibit, showcasing the artwork they made while traveling for six months. The exhibit runs through March 24.
Discussion with Ariel Burger – Friday, 7pm – The author discusses his award-winning book, “Witness,” at the Levin Jewish Community Center. The conversation will cover Ariel’s relationship with professor and Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, and his inspiring and thought-provoking experiences in Wiesel’s classroom.
Counting House’s Underground Pop-Up Cocktail Event – Friday, 7-11pm – Celebrate Counting House’s fourth anniversary with cocktails in The Vault. The Underground series will feature a retrospective of Counting House’s most-loved cocktails starting with the “Antillean Daiquiri”

Chris Knight – Friday, 9pm – Motorco Music Hall hosts singer-songwriter Chris Knight as he performs songs from his album “Little Victories,” which consists of 11 folk/country rock songs, one of which features Chris’ lifelong musical hero, John Prine. Traditional, American music artist Clovis Draper also performs.
The Pub’s Annual St. Paddy’s Day Party – Saturday, 11am-Sunday, 2am – West 94th St. Pub is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in a big way with an all-day party! Her Heart is Slowly Breaking: Stories of Stagville Women – Saturday, 1-4:15pm – Take Historic Stagville’s new tour illustrating the stories of enslaved women and the women who owned them. The tour will include information on violence and abuse that is unsuitable for young children. Reservations required.
Durham Beer Crawl – Saturday, 2-5pm – Spend your St. Patrick’s Day weekend enjoying unique and delicious beer with Pour Taproom! The crawl will consist of four stops, including Geer Street Garden, Beer Durham and Durty Bull Brewing. Tickets are $25 per person.

‘Numinous Light’ – Saturday, 5-7pm – Join artist Judy Keene for an opening reception of her new series of paintings at Craven Allen Gallery. Judy explores the resonance of color using pigments from raw materials. Her work ranges in scale from smaller pieces to large-scale canvases and focuses on the natural world. Fourth Annual Rock Roulette: A Benefit for Girls Rock NC – Saturday, 6-10pm – Ten new bands will play original songs and covers to raise $20,000 to support Girls Rock NC at Motorco Music Hall. Donate to your favorite band and help empower girls, women and people of marginalized genders to be confident community members.
