Art Picnic – Thursday, 4-7pm – Painting, popcorn and promoting a great cause: What could be better? Sign up with your kids for this outdoor craft event at Bull City Craft. Including fun crafts and snacks from Relay Foods, this event is a fundraiser for Arts for Life, an organization that creates educational art programs for children with serious illnesses and disabilities. Bull City Craft, Eila Voloshen of Urban Durham Realty and The Mad Popper sponsor this event.

Lolly and YoYo – Thursday, 4pm – Get up and get movin’ with the Philadelphia-based duo at The Regulator Bookshop, and experience an interactive reading of their new book, “MOVE! This unique book reading includes live music and fitness games with props like parachutes, puppets and even pool noodles.

All-In Tour – Thursday, 6-8pm – Get your weekend started early at Fullsteam Brewery with the All-In Music Project. Rock out to Motown tunes and classic soul featuring the tour’s founder, Eric Moeller, while learning how to engage in more positive and transformative ways within the Triangle. Of course, there will be great beer involved as well.

Movies on the Plaza – Thursday, 7:30-10pm – Northgate Mall presents the second film in its summer movie series showing, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Pair this throwback with some beer or wine from Bull City Burger and Brewery, and don’t forget to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

“Native” – Thursday, 7:30pm – Head to The Carrack Modern Art to hear Pakistani photographer Yousuf Zafar talk about his exhibit made up of photos from developing and underdeveloped countries like Vietnam, Mumbai and Zanzibar. “Native” highlights the similarities and differences across cultures, and Yousuf poses the question: What does it mean to be “native”?

Riverdance – Thursday, 7:30pm; Friday, 8pm; Saturday, 2pm and 8pm; and Sunday, 1pm and 6:30pm – Experience this international Irish dance phenomenon, back at 
the Durham Performing Arts Center by popular demand, on its 20th anniversary World Tour. Tradition and talent abound in the compelling performance blending dance, music and song, with this tour featuring new costumes, new lighting, new projections and the addition of a brand new number, “Anna Livia.”

Chris Botti – Thursday, 8pm – The Carolina Theatre presents Grammy award-winning instrumental artist, Chris Botti. Not only has he won multiple Grammy awards, but Chris is also the largest-selling American instrumental artist, selling more than 4 million albums. He has performed with Lady Gaga, Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Frank Sinatra … the list could go on an on. Prepared to be blown away by this extremely talented trumpeter.

Music + Film Series – Friday, 8-10pm – UNEXPOSED Microcinema hosts its second screening in the series featuring live music from Secretary and videos from various other artists. Experience these two forms of audio and visual art while enjoying a cold can of beer.

Universal Indians – Friday, 8-10pm – The Shed presents an intimate concert with an avant jazz trio featuring saxophonist Joe McPhee.

Triangle Race for the Cure – Saturday, 7:30am-1:30pm – Come out and support the world’s largest breast cancer organization at The Frontier in Research Triangle Park. The competitive race starts at 7:30am, followed by the 20th anniversary celebration at 8:15am, honoring survivors and remembering those we have lost, and a recreational 5K at 9:05am. Don’t miss out on live music, surprises along the running course, the Food Truck Rodeo for after-race fun and a Family Fun Zone sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes featuring a bounce house and Disney characters. There’s still time to register and donate!

Summer Reading Kickoff – Saturday, 10am-1pm – Keep calm and read on this weekend on the Plaza at Northgate Mall. Join the Durham County Library as it kicks off with performers, games, face painting, music and more.

Toll Brothers – Saturday, 10am-6pm – When life hands you lemons, make a lemonade stand! Toll Brothers holds its annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand event in participating Toll Brothers communities, including our own The Hills at Southpoint. Proceeds from the event will support the Foundation, which supports childhood cancer research. There will be entertainment, food and fun for the whole community.

Goat Patrol – Saturday, 11-2 – The Scrap Exchange welcomes goats into its garden to to do a little spring cleaning. Come out and watch these goats munch up the kudzu, and make space for new plants to grow. This kid and photo-friendly event is sponsored by Duke University and its Doing Good in the Neighborhood grant program.

Junetoberfest – Saturday, 2-6pm – Oktoberfest + June = Junetoberfest! Join the Durham Co-Op Market in celebrating this traditional German festival with beer, food, music and dance. There will be beers from Bull City Burger & Brewery, Ponysaurus Brewering and Bull Durham Beer Co., plus a performance by the Little German Band and Dancers.

Native” Closing Reception – Saturday, 6-9pm – Celebrate Yousuf Zafar’s exhibit one last time at The Carrack before it closes. The exhibit features photos from all over the world focusing on low-and middle-income countries in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.

Rock the Park – Saturday, 6-10:30pm – Dance on over to the Duke Park and hear David Gerald’s jazz and rock band for the kick off of the movie and concert series. Durham Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy concerts or watch movies in various parks throughout the summer.

Tobacco Road FC – Saturday, 7pm – Cheer on Durham’s only professional soccer team at its first game in the National Premier Soccer League championship at the Durham County Stadium.

“Corporeal Coordinates” – Saturday, 8-9:15pm – Didn’t get enough of Anna Kipervaser’s screening of “Corporeal Coordinates”? Come on back to UNEXPOSED Microcinema for an encore showing of 11 short films and videos.

Spring Brunch and Showcase – Sunday, noon-2pm – Celebrate and support the Southern Documentary Fund at its annual spring brunch and showcase. Enjoy a Spanish-inspired meal at Mateo Bar de Tapas while mingling with local filmmakers and members of the SDF community. Afterwards, head over to the Full Frame Theater for a Showcase Screening of SDF films-in-progress, followed by a Q-and-A with the filmmakers.

Txakolifest – Sunday, noon-4pm – Pronounced “cha-ko-lee,” this Spanish white wine is hard to pass up. Come taste samples of this refreshing, bubbly drink, and raise money for Urban Ministries of Durham at the same time. You’ll experience a glimpse of the culture in the Spanish Basque country with vendors, chefs and culinary artisans while helping a great cause that assists the homeless in our community. Mattie Beason, De Maison, Wine Authorities and The Rickhouse are all partnering up to make this festival one for the books!

5th Birthday Community Show – Sunday, noon-5pm – Wish The Carrack a happy birthday! Also, for those participating in its  Community Show next Friday, drop off your artwork to be featured. (Be sure to check the requirements for your work before you drop it off.)

Adopt-a-Cat – Sunday, 2-3:30pm – Books and cats always seem to go together. The Regulator Bookshop and APS of Durham join each other to host adoption events the second Sunday of every month. So come out and read books, cuddle with cats, and maybe even take one home!

Chez Cabaret – Sunday, 5pm – Spend the night reminiscing the feeling of New York City night-clubs at Cafe Parizade. You will be served a three-course meal, a complimentary drink and experience great cabaret entertainment by Ellen Ciompi and other artists in the elegant private dining room.

Beer and Hymns – Sunday, 7:30pm – Join others in the community for a sing-along of the best-known, best-loved hymns. All are welcome to sing along while enjoying local beer and live music led by founder Jesse DeConto of The Pinkerton Raid. In the words of Jesse: “Sing loudly, drink slowly and make friends.”
