Historic Algonquin Tennis Club Marker Unveiling – Thursday, 6:30pm – Witness history at the W.D. Hill Recreation Center as the North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Program commemorates the Algonquin Tennis Club, an athletic, social and political meeting space for Durham’s African American residents, with a new highway marker. An educational program detailing the significance of the Algonquin throughout Durham’s history will follow the unveiling.

NC Gay + Lesbian Film Festival – Thursday-Sunday – Back for its 24th year, this film festival features a diverse array of LGBTQIA+ cinema that celebrates today’s gay, lesbian and transgender life, and includes shorts, documentaries and feature films. Hosted by The Carolina Theatre, the festival is the second largest gay, lesbian and transgender film festival in the Southeast, attracting thousands of guests each year.

Hops & Blues Festival – Saturday, 4-8pm – This inaugural festival, hosted by The Glass Jug Beer Lab, incorporates beer, live music and food trucks in its celebration of blues music. The festival will feature 10 local and regional breweries, including Brewery Bhavana, Trophy Brewing Co., Ancillary Fermentation, Bond Brothers, Commonwealth Brewing, Heist Brewery, Barrel Culture, HopFly Brewing Co. and Fullsteam, in addition to The Glass Jug. Through a partnership with Music Maker Relief Foundation, local blues musicians including Big Ron Hunter and Harvey Dalton Arnold will perform.
Tym Moss: Live Cabaret – Saturday, 7-8pm – Indulge yourself in what critics call “one of the best cabaret shows in town” as Tym Moss performs live at Arcana.

‘Speed Killed My Cousin’ Screening – Saturday, 8pm – Follow the life of an African American woman soldier who struggles with PTSD after returning home from the Iraq war in this powerful movie shown at the Hayti Heritage Center.
Rock the Park: Throwback Night – Saturday, 8:30-10:30pm – Grab a blanket and a lawn chair to chill out and watch “Bull Durham” (rated R) on the big screen to commemorate Durham’s 150th anniversary in Durham Central Park. Food vendors will be available to provide you with some movie munchies.
‘Junk’ Screening – Sunday, 7pm – Hosted in Fletcher Hall of The Carolina Theatre and an official selection of the NC Gay + Lesbian Film Festival, ‘Junk’ stars Tym Moss, an NYC performer with a critically acclaimed cabaret show, and Robbie Wayne, a North Carolina native and six-time Emmy-nominated actor, in this musical comedy in which two friends hash out their history over a deceased friend’s belongings. The screening will be followed by an afterparty at The Pinhook.
Movie Night at Ponysaurus – Sunday, 8pm – Soak in the last bit of the weekend before the work week begins by watching a movie about a dysfunctional family’s cross-country road trip at Ponysaurus Brewing Company. Beer and food from Soomsoom Pita Pockets food truck are available for purchase.
