I have written often about Dry Creek Vineyard, located in the Dry Creek AVA (American Viticultural Area) of Sonoma County. These fine people are never satisfied. The wines go from strength to strength, the quality of late has blossomed further due to some great vintages, yet they still keep their prices modest and affordable. What a trifecta! Today’s wine is their “regular” bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it’s a winner. A wine that blossoms in the glass and will reward some cellaring if you’re in the mood. Otherwise, enjoy tonight!
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Vineyard $26
Dark garnet color with a slightly lightening rim. The nose is a concentrated joy, with compact berry, cherry bark, loamy earth, mushroom and smoke elements. This really speaks of its origins in Dry Creek with dreamy richness and chocolate overtones. Flavors are medium-bodied, generous and very satisfying. Its youth contributes to a fairly one-dimensional mouthfeel, but no lack of personality. Long lingering flavors of dark berries and cherry persist. (82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot) Drink now-2022.
