‘Textbook Chianti Classico’

HopeValleyBottleShop_BannerSPEC024yln416rwbr_375x500I have sampled Cecchi wines for many years and have always been impressed by their quality and what I can only call the genuineness of place. Cecchi vineyards are located in the verdant hills north of Siena. We used to joke about stopping at the nearest railroad station, whose sign said: “Castellina in Chianti — Monteriggione.” We figured the sign might be longer than the region itself! Supple, absolutely textbook Chianti Classico is made here, and today’s example is comforting proof.

2012 Chianti Classico DOCG, Cecchi Storia Di Famiglia $22 srp

Translucent, garnet color. Typical nose of cherry compote in a warm coat of sweet wood and tanned leather. Violet and forest floor overtones express the embracing charm of this famed region. It sports a medium-bodied palate with velvety cherry flavors, supported by excellent acidity and balance. The 2012 vintage has produced forward, delightful early drinking wines throughout the region. Drink now-2018.
