Each week, we share – through pictures – what the folks behind Durham Mag have been doing around town. We’re always out and about, just because we love this place; we hope you’ll comment with what you’ve been doing, too!
Gonza Tacos
Gonza Tacos y Tequila unveiled specials on its summer menu last Tuesday, including these scrumptious tacos: guava-glazed pork tenderloin, pan-seared shrimp and smoked brisket. And they certainly bring the heat!
Gonza Margs
Tame the heat of Gonza‘s spicy tacos with this refreshing watermelon mint margarita. It’s a necessary move when dining on their patio in these sweltering temperatures!
Great Big Canvas
Our office continues to look better and better thanks to the combined efforts of our designers, photog Bri Brough and Great Big Canvas!
Music in the Gardens
The lawn was packed at last week’s Music in the Gardens at Sarah P. Duke Gardens, presented by Duke Performances. Music Maker Relief Foundation has collaborated with Duke Performances this season to present artists for the summer concert series, including self-taught electric guitarist Cool John Ferguson and harmonica player Sam Frazier Jr., who rocked the stage on Wednesday.
Dain’s Place
Senior Associate Editor Amanda MacLaren is a sucker for grilled cheese — it’s her go-to meal at Dain’s Place, where you get to choose which three cheeses you’d like on a choice of sourdough or rye bread. Amanda went with pepperjack, provolone and mozzarella here, but highly recommends the pimento cheese!
Haw River Farmhouse Ales
Long, hot summer days call for a dip in the Haw River and a beer at Haw River Farmhouse Ales’ tasting room. (Amanda went with the Foraged Honeysuckle Saison.) Learn more about this relatively new brewery in our August issue!
Monuts Donuts
The early bird catches the donuts (and no line!) at Monuts Donuts.
Durham Bullhorns
The Durham Bullhorns trumpet ensemble played lively music for the crowds at last Saturday’s Durham Farmers’ Market.
Taco Grande
As the farmers’ market wrapped up, Amanda and a friend snagged lunch (two tacos – chicken and vegetarian – for $5) from the Taco Grande food truck parked on Hunt St. Delicious and authentic, with a hot sauce that’s phenomenally spicy!
Sam’s Bottle Shop
It was National Rosé Day on Saturday and Assistant Editor Jessica Stringer spotted a few bottles at Sam’s Bottle Shop.
Motorco Brunch
If you don’t order a Bloody Mary during Sunday brunch at Motorco’s Parts & Labor, you’re doing it wrong.
