What’s not to love about Durham? It’s got everything from art to fundraisers to food. We do our best to keep up with it all. Check out what we’re obsessed with this week!

Hot Chocolate at Gocciolina

FullSizeRenderGocciolina – so good, it’s ridiculous. Check out the decadent hot chocolate! And PSA: There is now an adjacent lounge, so you can relax and get a drink (and NOT wait in the cold) until your table is ready.

Volunteering at Book Harvest

IMG_3688It was cold at the Book Harvest Dream Big book drive on MLK Day. That didn’t stop 400+ volunteers. They collected 4,000 more books than last year! The drive goes through Jan. 31, so bring some children’s books by this wonderful nonprofit.

Gorgeous Sunrises

Pollo Frito at Mateo

Cupcakes at Smallcakes

IMG_3638It’s January, and we are all trying to be good. But sometimes you just have to indulge in a caramel crunch cupcake at Smallcakes.

Swordfish at Blu Seafood

IMG_3655The swordfish lunch special at blu seafood – excellent! Andrea loved the bacon, mushrooms and green beans that accompanied it. Don’t miss blu at TASTE the Event, happening in April!

Pompieri Pizza

Pompieri Pizza1Associate Editor Amanda MacLaren loves the table placeholders at Pompieri Pizza — she learns something new about Durham every time she visits thanks to the little factoids that are printed on them. And a Parrish Street Pale Ale is a must!

Pompieri PizzaPompieri’s Margherita is the perfect choice for a picky pizza eater — its beauty is in its simplicity.

Durham Rotary Club

Dan-RotaryOur founder, Dan Shannon, was the featured speaker at the Durham Rotary Club on Monday. He spoke about how the changing media landscape has shaped our mission — and made us a content company rather than a publisher of magazines. Thanks to the Rotary for having us, and congrats to them on 100 YEARS in Durham!
