Stuff We Like: Mez, Mesa, Monuts and More

Each week, we share – through pictures – what the folks behind Durham Mag have been doing around town. We’re always out and about, just because we love this place; we hope you’ll comment with what you’ve been doing, too!

Mez

Mez DurhamMost RTP folks already know Mez is a killer lunch spot, serving beautiful dishes packed with flavor, like this grilled N.C. catfish with jalapeno grit cake, avocado-black bean salsa and green pepper emulsion.

Mesa Latin Kitchen

Mesa Latin KitchenCreative Director Kevin Brown was finally able to make it out to  Mesa Latin Kitchen on Hillsborough Road on Saturday night. Try the 24-hour brisket steak with red onion jam, brownbutter chimichurri and crema potato!

Bull City Homebrew

Bull City HomebrewEver wanted to brew your own beer, or know someone who does? Bull City Homebrew offers beer ingredient kits for many different styles of beer, all of which are labeled with the difficulty level of the brew. This would make a great gift for novice homebrewers! Bull City Homebrew is also participating in Shop Independent Durham Week, Nov. 28-Dec. 6, and will be offering a special: When you buy two or more beer or wine ingredient kits, get 15% off each kit. Also, 10% off all equipment kits!

Luna Rotisserie and Empanadas

LunaYes, you know we love Luna, but after a stellar meal last Thursday, Senior Associate Editor Amanda MacLaren needs to give another shout out for the incredible bacon collards and chorizo and chicken empanadas! Her date said the rotisserie-fired Peruvian roast chicken was excellent, too.

Monuts Donuts

MonutsAmanda loves the build-your-own-sandwich option at Monuts. She often goes with one of their huge, flaky biscuits, opting this time for an egg white, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado and greens, and an eggnog gingersnap doughnut for dessert!

Ponysaurus

PonysaurusAgain, we cannot emphasize enough the amazing combination of Pie Pushers pizza, Ponysaurus beer and Sunday night football. Come by on a Sunday if you haven’t yet — it’s a fun, casual start to the week/end of the weekend.
