Each week, we share – through pictures – what the folks behind Durham Mag have been doing around town. We’re always out and about, just because we love this place; we hope you’ll comment with what you’ve been doing, too!
Johnson Family Barbecue
If you’re driving down Hwy. 98, then you have no excuse not to stop by Johnson Family Barbecue. This family-owned barbecue joint smokes all its meat — including this barbecue chicken — in an on-site smoke pit over 100% hickory wood. Paired with a side of spicy mac and cheese and Southern potato salad, and you’ve got an authentic Eastern barbecue lunch or dinner!
Behind-the-Scenes
Check out photog Briana Brough getting the best shots for our Oct/Nov design issue!
ATC Back Porch Music on the Lawn
The American Tobacco Campus wrapped up its final Back Porch Music on the Lawn concert last week with local bluegrass band Chatham County Line, joined by award-winning singer-songwriter Jeanne Jolly. The rain had been threatening all night, but Associate Editor Amanda MacLaren snapped this pic before the sky opened up and everyone headed for cover!
Durham Farmers’ Market
Yes, we know we featured the Durham Farmers’ Market last week, but you just never know what you’ll find there on a Saturday morning! Like Bubble Guy here, entertaining every kid and kid at heart with his huge bubble wand!
Caffe Bellezza
No trip to the market is complete without a cup of coffee from Caffe Bellezza!
Sympathy for the Deli
The best part of waking up: Breakfast sandwiches from Sympathy for the Deli! Bacon plus cheddar cheese on sourdough toast, add avocado and a local egg. Mmm, so good.
Monuts Donuts
Pumpkin. Whoopie. Pie. Maple cream filling. Monuts. Best decision of the weekend.
True Flavors Diner
This chicken and waffles plate at True Flavors Diner has us drooling! South Durhamites, you’ve got to check this place out — especially at brunch — if you haven’t yet.
