The Durham Symphony Orchestra opened its 40th season at Northgate Mall’s Music on the Plaza fall series. The more than 65-member orchestra, led by Maestro William Henry Curry, performed works by Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Edvard Grieg, Duke Ellington, as well as a special tribute to Louis Armstrong, at the second annual Halloween Spooktacular family concert. Guests were encouraged to don their Halloween costumes and compete for best dressed. Other performances included Paperhand Puppet Intervention, creator of giant puppets, masks and shadow plays, and the Little River Cloggers of Rougemont, specializing in the traditional dance forms of the southern Appalachian Mountains.
