Kick Back With This Fresh, Assertive White

rutiniwines_trumpeter_torrontes-1The “Trumpeter” brand is well known across America. Not as well known is the name behind the “musician” label. It’s Rutini, a 19th century Italian immigrant who built a wine legacy in the Mendoza district of Argentina. The winery’s old-vine Malbec is a serious red wine value. But today is all about Torrontés, a grape with Spanish roots that truly finds its home here. We are the beneficiaries of this perfect white for the stifling, muggy days of summer. Grapes are sourced from the high-altitude Uco Valley, and first-timers will be blown away by its fresh assertiveness. A better white for simply kicking back would be hard to find – especially at the price!

2015 Torrontés, Trumpeter, Rutini Wines $10.99 srp

Pale yellow in color. An explosion on the nose of star fruit, peach, pineapple and honeysuckle. Subtle it is not, with an underlying tea and licorice element. What a wake-up call. Mouth texture is juicy, with a waxy richness. Flavors include apricot and green apple with a touch of thyme and grassy flavor along with vibrant acidity. It can overwhelm bland dishes, but anything cooked on the grill will revel in its brashness. Spices welcome! Drink now-2017.
