Remember those oranges you found in the toe of your stocking on Christmas morning? Beyù Caffè has encapsulated that memory in an adult version of the healthy treat – and one that you can enjoy before and after the holiday! Cozy up with this hot citrus cider, a blend of Teavine – an infusion of organic green tea, organic honey and natural white wine – apple juice, Myers’s dark rum, caramel, oranges and nutmeg. The ingredients are thrown into a steam pitcher as you would do with a mulled wine, and then served in a coffee cocktail mug. From the first sip, you’re hit with the puckering acidity of the citrus and the prominent rum flavor, followed by hints of honey and nutmeg. It’s one of those drinks you feel coursing through to your chilled hands and feet, spreading warmth along the way. “When people do a traditional spiced wine, they look at a big, full-bodied red and cinnamon and nutmeg and all those sort of flavors,” says Assistant General Manager Malachi Kosanovich, the recipe’s creator. “So to do something lighter with a white wine … makes it more accessible to people who don’t really like reds – it’s not overwhelmingly wine-flavored, like a spiced wine would be.” Malachi recommends pairing the light winter drink with brunch, the grilled salmon Caesar salad or roasted Mediterranean chicken. “It’s also strong enough to go with a burger,” Malachi says. “It’s pretty negotiable.” In my opinion, this drink stands well on its own and would couple best with an interesting read in one of the plentiful comfy lounge seats – try it, you’ll see what I mean.
