Ask most people about Côtes Du Rhône wines and they think of red. But vibrant whites are also made, and they represent the same kind of value as their red brethren. Today’s example from Les Dauphins is a blend of numerous grapes that thrive in this warm-weather climate, yet produce wines of mouth-watering refreshment. 2016 was an exceptional year hereabouts, and it shows!
2016 Côtes Du Rhône Réserve Blanc, Les Dauphins $13 srp
A deep, golden color in the glass. A wild, attractive, very round, floral nose of lemon curd and fresh country herbs. Wide, clean and engulfing. A slightly “starchy” mouth texture fans out to rich lemony flavors and low acidity. Yet it reminds one of the ocean with a terrific saline “cut” and a spicy finish providing refreshment. Snappy, yet full-bodied, this is a great match for a cold Vichyssoise, North Sea hard cheeses or even a Cassoulet! (65% Grenache Blanc, 15% Marsanne, 10% Clairette and 10% Viognier) Drink now-2020.
