This used to be considered the “wine lake” of France, with oceans of cheap wine and quantity outweighing quality. But years of turning excess grapes into cheap brandy has created more thoughtful winemaking – and wine makers. Paul Mas leads the way in producing inexpensive, well-made wines whose charm have caught the attention of sommeliers and smart shoppers. His 2015 Rosé Aurore, in a 1-liter bottle, represents a bargain in an easy-to-drink, and love, summer delight. This is what he calls “Le Luxe Rural,” (rural luxury).

2015 Côté Mas Rosé Aurore $10.99 1 liter srp

Pale, salmon-pink color. Wonderfully fresh nose of citrus elements, watermelon rind and stone fruit emerging as it warms in the glass. Flavors are crisp yet easygoing with soft, but not flabby, flavors that remain refreshing. Clean, delightful with those extra two glasses of wine per bottle a definite plus. (50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 20% Syrah) Drink now-2017.
