If you’re feeling a little bit the worse for wear after New Year’s Eve celebrations, those credit cards bills will soon be upon you to dampen spirits further. Is there really an inexpensive wine that can deliver pleasure during these days of austerity? Well, yes, and I’m happy to ring in this surprising white from Chile. You see it everywhere and probably steer clear. But if a fish and poultry white, or a sipper as you toil over the stove is what you need, this could become your new bargain for lean days. Light gold in color. A grassy, lemony nose with elements of pineapple, banana and that tell-tale smell associated with French Sancerre, cat pee. (It’s really not offensive, but cat owners take note.) Flavors deliver tropical fruits, a medium-bodied texture with a generous and lemony finish. Serve nice and cold to mitigate a slightly rough aftertaste. Great for salmon, chicken breast or a fresh Cobb salad. Drink over the next 12 months.
