Rye is just a guy looking for someone to play with! This fun-loving pup is a bundle of joy and wants nothing more than to chase balls and end up in your lap at the end of the day. He can be a little nervous at first but just needs some time to warm up. Rye does well with other dogs; when he gets to go to the play yard with volunteers at the Animal Protection Society of Durham, he often waits by the fence wondering who might come along to play tag. APS is currently running an adoption special, thanks to Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelter’s. All adult dogs are $5 until Saturday, July 22, and all cat adoption fees are $50. Adoption fees for dogs and puppies typically range from $125-$175. This includes a basic medical exam and behavioral assessment, spay or neuter surgery, microchip implantation, rabies and other vaccinations, intestinal parasite check (with treatment, control and prevention), a heartworm test and deworming.
The Animal Protection Society of Durham, located at 2117 E. Club Blvd., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been helping animals in the community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. In addition to county funding, APS relies on donations from individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 7,000 stray, surrendered and abused animals it cares for each year.
