Adoptable Pet of the Week: Big Zeeno

This guy is a silly one. Big Zeeno is all about the laughs and the belly rubs, and he’s not going to let you leave without you giving him a pat on his big round head. Big Zeeno is looking for an adventure beyond the shelter play yard, even though that’s his current favorite place. He’s quite strong, so his new owner would need to be someone who can keep up. Big Zeeno has been at the shelter since September 2022. He’s been adopted out twice and returned both times, but truly no fault of his own. When families moved and owners were deployed, Big Zeeno ended up back at APS, still searching for his forever home. Help give this guy another happy tail – he has only love to give.

To set up a visit or to adopt, send adoption forms to adopt@apsofdurham.org. Due to the high volume of inquiries, please allow 2-3 business days for a reply. Same-day adoptions are now available in the shelter. Visit Big Zeeno’s webpage to learn more.

APS is currently running an adoption special, thanks to Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelter’s. All adult dogs are $5 until Saturday, and all cat adoption fees are $50. Adoption fees for dogs and puppies typically range from $125-$175. This includes a basic medical exam and behavioral assessment, spay or neuter surgery, microchip implantation, rabies and other vaccinations, intestinal parasite check (with treatment, control and prevention), a heartworm test and deworming.

The Animal Protection Society of Durham, located at 2117 E. Club Blvd., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been helping animals in the community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. In addition to county funding, APS relies on donations from individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 7,000 stray, surrendered and abused animals it cares for each year. The shelter is open by appointment only due to COVID-19. For more information, email adopt@apsofdurham.org.
