There are so many good sparkling wines out there. Some super Prosecco, wonderful West Coast bubblies, and the list grows and grows. But I always like to drink a bottle of true French Champagne to bring in the New Year. It should be dry, festive, complex and memorable, and today’s selection checks all those boxes. It’s the Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage. Everything about this wine thrills the senses. If you crave a Champagne with body, rich texture and a gorgeous color, your new year will be well-rewarded!Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage Non-Vintage $60 suggested retail price
A deep red, almost scarlet color in the glass. (Sort of like the label color!) The flowery, yeasty nose shows strawberry, apple, Morello cherries and freshly baked brioche. There’s a brightness here that reminds me of pomegranates. Flavors are crisp and fresh with a very fine bubble; it has a medium-full bodied mouthfeel – creamy and sensual. Terrific with or without food, this has romance written in large letters. (60% pinot noir, 25% pinot meunier, 15% chardonnay.) Drink now-2020.
