A Porch-Sippin’ Pinot Grigio

imagesToday’s wine is something you don’t see every day. Nor is it a decision to jump on the current rosé bandwagon stampede. It’s a Pinot Grigio made by the “ramato” process. Grape skin contact for 24 hours produces a “vino ramato” or coppery-colored wine. Attems produces this variation which is a delightful twist for Pinot Grigio lovers. It’s a mouthful, and stands out among the myriad of insipid PG’s available everywhere …

2014 Pinot Grigio Ramato, Attems, Venezia Giulia $18 srp

True to its method – a beautiful coppery color, leaning towards apricot. A joyously aromatic, fruity nose with melon, ripe peach and citrus elements. Begs for the outdoors. Flavors are soft in the mouth but structured, chock-full of pear, peach and tangerine components. Good acidity keeps it very refreshing. I imagine the Venetians drinking this with all manner of “Frutti di Mare.” Drink now-2017.
