Hike NC Guided Hike @ Umstead State Park: Reedy Creek Bike 'N' Bridle Trail

This fall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Parks continue Hike NC, a series of more than 60 free guided hikes across North Carolina’s state parks, nature preserves and your local community parks. Each hike will be led by the state’s top hiking and nature experts.

Live Music: John Westmoreland @ Roost Beer Garden

Join us at Roost, our seasonal beer garden, for live music on the porch, local  beer on tap, wine by the glass and artisan wood-fired pizza! Pull up a chair around the water fountain or under large oaks, and enjoy good weather and good company.
John Westmoreland will be providing live music on the front porch rain or shine. The Goat will serve as a safe haven for musicians and listeners in case of inclement weather.

Camp Songs Community Campfire @ Oval Drive Park

This fall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Parks continue Hike NC, a series of more than 60 free guided hikes across North Carolina’s state parks, nature preserves and your local community parks. Each hike will be led by the state’s top hiking and nature experts.

Come and hike the 2.5 miles of trail that winds down to the gorge, then stick around and learn how a trail is built as we work to expand our trail network. Prepare to pitch in and get dirty!

Adventure in nature with your preschooler at West Point on the Eno. We’ll read anature themed book, then take a walk on the wild side to find the nature right outside our door. Join us on a walking tour of Dorothea Dix Park, where we will be discussing the history, current use and future plans for the park.

Moonlight Geopaddle @ Lake Michie Boating Area

Join DPR Outdoor Recreation for one of our most popular programs, combining the fun of a nighttime GPS scavenger hunt with kayak paddling the glassy waters of gorgeous Lake Michie. We will provide the paddling and orientation equipment, you bring weather appropriate clothing and a flashlight. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required. Age: 7 and up

Beers from Here-Fullsteam @ Horton Grove Nature Preserve

On September 17th join Fullsteam Brewery of Durham as we explore the wild edibles of Horton Grove Nature Preserve. This 708 acre preserve has varied ecosystems and rich biodiversity along a 10 mile trail system less than 20 minutes from downtown Durham! Head brewer Brian Mandeville will guide this walk and provide information on plant identification and responsible, safe foraging practices** while seeking natural flavors for Fullsteam’s Farms Edge beer line.

Cornucopia Cancer Support Center Golf Tourney @ Lochmere Golf Club

Please join us for Cornucopia’s 13th Annual Golf Tourney benefit this year for what promises to be a terrific day on the links, supporting the Triangle’s only non-clinical cancer support center – Monday, Sept. 18, at Lochmere Golf Club in Cary.

Your participation helps us raise funds so that we can continue to offer essential support services to cancer patients and their families in the Triangle-area and improve the quality of life for those touched by cancer in our communities. So, tee off with us on Monday, September 18 and come support Cornucopia!

Join us for an every-Wednesday after-work hike on the bike ‘n’ bridle trail at Umstead. We’ll meet at 6 p.m. at the Lake Crabtree neighborhood entrance to the park, walk out to the cemetery and return. The total distance of this hike is 5 miles, but feel free to turn around at any time. The hike is a mellow climb out and a mellow descent back. This is a great introduction to hiking for beginners and a good aerobic workout for more experienced hikers. Our hike leader will hang in the back with the beginners.

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Falls Lake State Recreation Area Yorkshire Office: Mountains-To-Sea Trail

Join a park ranger for an evening hike along the lake in honor of the fall equinox. This easy-to-moderate hike covers approximately 2 miles of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, with periodic educational stops along the way. Participants will have to park outside of the gate, along the shoulders of the road, and we will hike in from there.
