Shaga! @ Global Breath Studio
Feb 23 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Shaga is inspired by the movement language of Gaga, developed by Ohad Naharin. Durham-based Shaleigh Comerford, who trained with Ohad, has created an accessible, empowering and fun practice, which she will share at Global Breath once a month for anyone interested in liberating their body & their mind.

In this 2 hour session we begin with an hour Shaga class, as we learn to approach movement as a dynamic, healing, and ever-changing power, using evocative ideas and imagery in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Class begins slowly and builds in intensity to continuous motion, providing enjoyable exercise for both body and soul. The second half of the class offers an intimate and deep exploration of the movement language though the creative process and choreography. We will develop movement phrases to experience the inhabitance and delicacy of form while generating embodied compositions.

This workshop is for individuals who wish to open themselves to movement in new ways. Dancers, yogis, and movers of all kinds and abilities are invited to participate. No prior experience necessary.

Mar 3 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

At Global Breath Studio, we are committed to offering a space where community can be built and strengthened, and where we can support one another both on & off our yoga mats. Once a month we host a “Community in Action” potluck for our community (and extended community) to come together and support each other as we work to make our city and country more safe, equitable, fair and loving.
This event will consist of yoga practice, mindfulness and community action, where those of us who are invested in deepening our understanding of what it means to live our values in today’s world can meet and share ideas, nourishment and/or action. Following a short and accessible asana practice and mindfulness meditation, we share a vegetarian meal (just bring a dish). For those who wish to take concrete actions towards creating your vision for the city, state, country and world, we will have various options for actions to take, such as making phone calls and writing postcards to government officials. We will also be putting together care packages to give to the homeless.

DETAILS:
– Please bring your computers and/or phones to make calls and write emails/letters, as well as one vegan food item to share with the group!

Heart-Opening Backbends: Creating Courage out of Fear @ Global Breath Studio
Mar 11 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

MindBody Centering Yoga backbending practices can be the most powerfully healing of asanas, but there can be so much fear or pain that gets in the way… Did you know that backbending is a form of mental focus that we call courage? Yes, all MBCYoga fundamentals are built on our ability to stay focused. The cumulative effect is called ‘miracles!’

The MBCY method for approaching anything that feels inaccessible is through information and experience. We want to be ‘informed’ about ourselves, and our history is often in our ‘back’, what has come before… what is behind us. During this workshop, we will approach our pinnacle poses by breaking down every aspect of the pose, physically, mentally, neurologically and developmentally so that we can build the pose with intelligence and presence. We slowly acclimate the nervous system out of fight or flight responses that sabotage our ability to focus and be calm. As we learn how to move away from our individual sympathetic response into a parasympathetic state of calm, the poses arrive with patience and breath. During this workshop, we will examine the various aspects of our foundation, the central column of the spine and all of the various ways it moves or doesn’t move.

As we fearlessly allow the whole heart to motor, opening the whole body, the poses arrive! This enjoyable and inspiring ability will create pain free longevity and fearlessness for years to come!

**You must have a physical yoga practice at least 3 times a week for a year to enter this work safely.**

Open to all levels. To register, visit www.globalbreath.org/events.

Herbs to Support Yoga @ Global Breath Studio
Mar 17 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

How can herbs nourish our well being? How can herbal medicine compliment your yoga practice? In what ways would you like to grow? What do you need support with?

What to Expect:
Plants and people have been in intimate relationship for thousands of years, and they are still here for us, available as allies whenever we choose to connect. As beings of the earth, plants can help us attune to a deep groundedness and connection with all. Let’s re-member. Our bodies have the intelligence to be well and in balance. In yoga, we practice finding integration within ourselves and unity with all beings. Asana practice can give us clarity about blockages or tension patterns we may have in our bodies, and places we wish to strengthen or open deeper. Plant medicines can be wonderful teachers and helpers in our process of moving stagnation, smoothing our energy, finding ground, opening our vision, breathing deeply, nourishing our vital organs and nervous system, and so much more.

For years, Madelyn has been focused on gleaning tools for healing and transformation. With a background in herbal medicine, yoga, reiki, and Body Dialogue™, Madelyn enjoys holding space for folks to explore their own healing process. Madelyn believes that plants can unlock doors of transformation, allowing us the space to walk through, toward a greater sense of self and connection with all.

Plant medicines can be simple and accessible, yet effective and profound. Herbal medicine is people’s medicine, and Madelyn wishes to empower folks to take control of their own health and well-being.

Together we will learn about:
• Tools for space clearing
• Herbs to soothe stress and anxiety
• Herbs for relieving pain
• Herbs to support grounding and embodiment
• Herbs to support meditative states
• Herbs for the heart
• Herbs to support breathing well
• Simple tonic herbs for deep nourishment and immunity
• Supporting yourself and clients with simple herbal remedies
