Online MBA@UNC Information Session @ Nana's

Friends of Alamance County Public Libraries 33rd Fall Book Sale @ May Memorial Library
Sep 8 all-day

September 8-18, 2017.
The sale begins at Noon on Friday, September 8th with a “Friends Only” day (family memberships are available at the door for only $10.00). Open daily to the public until Monday, September 18th. Weekdays from Noon-6pm, Saturdays 10am-4pm and Sundays 1:30-4:30pm. We have thousands of books, including large print, children’s books and a large collection of movies and music. Prices range from 50 cents to $3. All proceeds from the sale provide funding for projects and library materials that promote literacy in Alamance County.

‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ @ Reynolds Industries Theater

Renowned for its mesmerizing musical score, the film “Beasts of the Southern Wild” will be screened while accompanied by a live North Carolina Symphony and Lost Bayou Ramblers performance: The first event of the Duke Performances’ 2017/18 season. Camp Songs Community Campfire @ Oval Drive Park

Program includes J.S. Bach cello suites and other works. Fred Raimi is a faculty member in the Duke University Department of Music. As a member of the Ciompi Quartet, he has performed in most major cities in the US, and in Europe, China, South America and Australia. A graduate of The Juilliard School, he has been artist-in-residence at both Hamilton and Colgate Universities, and won the International Cello Competition in Portugal in 1971. He has participated in chamber music festivals throughout the country, including the Spoleto Festival, Marlboro Festival, Monadnock Music, and Bellingham, Washington.

Brazilian born pianist Derison Duarte’s engagements include the Saint Louis Symphony, Missouri Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Boise Philharmonic. He has been invited to present recitals as a guest of the Dame Myra Hess Series in Chicago, the Oberlin College Conservatory, the Boston Conservatory, Duke University, Brown University, the Seattle Arts Museum, the Maestro Foundation Series in Santa Monica, and the Bunka Kaikan Series in Tokyo, among others. Mr. Duarte teaches at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC Central University and Duke University.

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Ledge Spring Forest: Various Trails

This fall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Parks continue Hike NC, a series of more than 60 free guided hikes across North Carolina’s state parks, nature preserves and your local community parks. Each hike will be led by the state’s top hiking and nature experts.

Come and hike the 2.5 miles of trail that winds down to the gorge, then stick around and learn how a trail is built as we work to expand our trail network. Prepare to pitch in and get dirty!

Raise your paws if you’re ready for another pop-up market at your favorite brewery! This September we’re opening the parking lot and brewery to local vendors as well as some adorable VIPs from The Animal Protection Society of Durham. These Very Important Pups are a part of the Durham Parks and Recreation’s Yappie Hour organization and their cause is a good one. Socialization is important in any dog’s daily life no matter the age, and one of the best ways to socialize your pup is to take it to a dog park. Yappie Hour and the Durham Parks and Recreation department have already helped build or improve three local dog parks, and have set their sights on a fourth location at the Rock Quarry.

What does this mean for you? It means a really good day. All you have to do is show up, we’ll take care of setting up the food, vendors, beer, and dogs. The taproom will be open all day with fresh, cold beer pouring as fast as our bartenders can move their hands, and I imagine the food truck Boricua Soul Food Truck will be working at just as fast of a pace. Besides food and drinks, you’re welcome to browse the shops and see if anything catches your eye, as well as get some serious dog petting in. While there is no fee, we heavily encourage donations to Yappie Hour, because more places for dogs to be happy is never a bad thing.

The venue will be directly across Main street from our store at the Social Games & Brews. There will be a guest DJ and Food Truck on site along with the Social’s fully stocked bar and game room. The event will run from 7-9pm on Saurday September 9th. Feel free to show up early to ensure that you get a good seat for the show, the models will walk at 7:45 SHARP so please don’t be late. Beers from Here-Mystery @ Brumley Nature Preserve

On September 10th join Mystery Brewing of Hillsborough as we explore the wild edibles of Brumley Nature Preserve. This 613 acre preserve just opened to the public in April and has 15 miles of trails for hikers and some for mountain bikers. It is also home to a mix of forest, riparian, and edge plant species. We are excited to partner with Piedmont Picnic Project who will help guide the walks and provide plenty of information of on plant identification and responsible, safe foraging practices**.
