“Material/Process” Visual Art Exhibit
The exhibition “Material/Process” features five artists whose work entails a complex use of various media. The artists’ interaction with their materials – how they are making their work – is an essential element of each participant’s creative practice. This diverse collection will include cut paper patterns from Reni Gower; fused, sewn, and silkscreened plastic bag assemblages by Deborah Kruger; patina applications on metal by Jackie MacLeod; silver gelatin, Kallitype, salt print, and cyanotype photos by Holden Richards; and handmade paper and natural fiber compositions by Gibby Waitzkin. All of the artists have a keen sense of design, environmental awareness and time consuming process that makes their work distinctive.
“Material/Process” will be on view on the first and second floors of the Durham Arts Council from November 8, 2019 through January 3, 2020. An artist reception will be held in conjunction with Third Friday Durham on November 15, 2019 6pm. A second Third Friday reception will be on December 20, 2019 6pm – this holiday event will feature the Durham Children’s Choir performing in the Pavilion lobby.
