Es una exposición que presenta las obras textiles de Patrizia Ferreira. En su trabajo, Ferreira personifica la necesidad profunda e imperante de escuchar y cederle protagonismo a nuestro hogar planetario, la Tierra. Sus creaciones bordadas son invitaciones sútiles a elaborar protestas personales, así como también llamados a la acción comunitaria.  “Como mujer inmigrante en los Estados Unidos, estoy en la búsqueda permanente de mi ‘hogar’. Siento la necesidad de adentrarme en mi pasado, de reinventar mi tierra natal. Este esfuerzo me transporta a una tierra de leyendas, alegorías, llena de nostalgia y anhelo.”  Hoy en día, nuestro hogar se enfrenta a desafíos ecológicos sin precedentes que exigen nuestra atención y cuidado. Las obras de Ferreira son un registro laborioso de la crisis ambiental y un llamado radical a cambios sistémicos. En cada obra, cosida durante largos períodos de tiempo, Ferreira aprovecha el poder de la tecnología a un ritmo meticuloso para elevar un espíritu colectivo y elaborar soluciones a mano.  “Central en mi trabajo es el uso del material más paradójico de todos, el plástico. Esta elección no es casual, ya que, aunque es una de las invenciones más exitosas en la historia de la ciencia de los materiales, su uso generalizado es uno de los mayores contribuyentes al estado actual de nuestro medio ambiente. Trabajando con los desechos plásticos de nuestra sociedad de consumo, incorporando hilos, tela, retazos de textiles heredados y desechos encontrados, tengo la oportunidad de reconciliar, coser, remendar y reparar el mundo a mi alrededor.”  El trabajo de Ferreira es una invitación a adentrarse en el mundo de la artesanía, el diseño y la tecnología como una práctica de resiliencia y resistencia. 

Patrizia Ferreira obtuvo una licenciatura en diseño textil del Instituto de Diseño Industrial en Montevideo, Uruguay, y un título de Maestría en Ciencias en diseño textil para estampados de la Universidad de Filadelfia (ahora Universidad Thomas Jefferson). Es una artista y educadora radicada en Raleigh, Carolina del Norte. 

Elevate en 21c presenta exposiciones temporales de obras de artistas que viven y trabajan en las comunidades circundantes de cada 21c Museum Hotel. Elevate brinda a los huéspedes del hotel y a los visitantes acceso exclusivo al trabajo de artistas destacados de la región, al mismo tiempo que presenta su obra en el contexto del espacio de arte contemporáneo de 21c.

Patrizia Ferreira + 21c Elevate Projects This Time Tomorrow: Crafting Resistance is an exhibition featuring the textile artworks of Patrizia Ferreira. In their work, Ferreira models the importance of personal deep listening, and yielding to focus on our planetary home, Earth. Her embroidered creations are gentle invitations for us to craft personal protests and community calls to action. “As an immigrant woman in the United States, I am in constant search for my “home”. I feel the need to dig into my past, to reinvent my homeland. This effort transports me to a land of legends, allegories, full of nostalgia and longing.” Today our home faces unprecedented ecological challenges, demanding our attention and care. Ferreira’s artworks are a laborious record of environmental crisis and a radical call for systemic changes. Each artwork stitched at great lengths of time, Ferreira harnesses the power of technology at a meticulous pace to raise a collective spirit and hand craft solutions. “Central to my work is the employment of the most paradoxical of all materials, plastic. This choice isn’t casual, while it is one of the most successful of human inventions in the history of material science, its widespread use is one of the biggest contributors to the current state of our environment. Working with the plastic debris of our society, incorporating yarn, thread, fabric remnants, heirloom textiles, and found waste, I get to reconcile, to stitch, to patch, to mend the world around me.” Ferreira’s work is an invitation to engage with craft, design and technology, as a practice of resilience.

Patrizia Ferreira received a bachelor’s degree in textile design from the Institute of Industrial Design in Montevideo, Uruguay and a Master of Science degree in textile design for prints from Philadelphia University (now Thomas Jefferson University). She is an artist and educator working in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Elevate at 21c presents temporary exhibitions of works by artists living and working in the communities surrounding each 21c Museum Hotel. Elevate provides hotel guests and visitors with unique access to the work of notable regional artists, while featuring their work in the context of 21c’s contemporary art space.
