Animal Protection Society of Durham’s Clear The Shelter

Animal Protection Society of Durham (APS), Durham’s community animal shelter, invites you to help “clear the shelter” through Saturday, September 18th. Adoption fees will be discounted for select APS adoptable animals throughout this week. We have dogs, cats, and small animals, including guinea pigs, rats, and rabbits available for adoption. In addition, all adopters now through the end of the event at 3 p.m. on Saturday will be entered into a drawing for a prize package!

APS is proud to participate again in Clear the Shelters, the annual nationwide pet adoption drive, in collaboration with WRAL-TV and NBCUniversal.  This is the seventh consecutive year that NBC and Telemundo owned stations present their popular pet adoption campaign to communities nationwide in partnership with affiliate stations and shelters/rescues.  Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign has helped more than half a million pets find new homes.

WRAL-TV will be tracking the adoptions throughout Saturday, and posting adoption numbers in real-time at Our social media is already buzzing with updates – follow APS on Facebook at, Instagram at,

Twitter at, and on TikTok at APSofDurham. You can also get adoption updates by searching with hashtags #WRAL and #ClearTheShelters.  We’ll have photographers on Saturday to take photos of adopters and their new fuzzy family members. Adopters are also encouraged to take a “shelfie” – a shelter selfie – and posting with the hashtag #shelfie and #apsofdurham.
