The Glass Jug, a popular craft beer hub located in the Greenwood Commons Shopping Center, expands the store to include an on-site brewery and beer garden, as well as an event space that private parties can rent out. All of the work for this expansion is being completed by local contractors, enhancing the Durham feel.
The change brings with it an addition to the name: The Glass Jug Beer Lab. The brewery will produce beer sold exclusively at The Glass Jug (no flagship beers, but instead focusing experimental batches, utilizing unique ingredients and flavor combinations), and the beer garden will include picnic tables, corn hole and other games. “I’m really looking forward to continuing my brewing journey, stepping into a professional brewing role,” says co-owner Chris Creech, who will oversee the brewing operation. “I’ve been lucky to have learned from and collaborated with so many talented brewers over the years, and we have the support of a tight-knit brewing community, which really gives me the confidence to know that we can be successful at making world-class beer right here in South Durham.”
The idea for this development came about thanks to the growth of South Durham as a destination for beer lovers and foodies. “The Glass Jug has always been a gathering place for the local community,” Chris says. “The expansion allows us to re-think the layout and design of the space with this in mind. We are not taking our focus away from providing great craft beverages for our customers – we’re just finding the best possible way to do that, and we think the addition of the brewery, beer garden and event space will enable us to do just that.” The Glass Jug Beer Lab hopes to open the new area to the public by September.
