Northgate’s favorite all-female band is back! The Beauty Operators will rock the stage in a free concert Friday, June 2nd, from 6:30-9pm at Northgate’s Music on the Plaza. Enjoy local eats and drinks from Stuft, Esmeralda’s Café, Randy’s Pizza and Bull City Burger and Brewery. The event is family friendly so bring your chairs and your kids, but leave your coolers and pets at home.

2017 Beaver Queen Pageant @ Duke Park

The Beaver Queen Pageant is Durham’s own special mix of folly, pageantry and humor. Contestants take on beaver personalities and compete for the title of Beaver Queen with their fashion, talent and personality. The theme for the 13th annual Beaver Queen Pageant is ‘Wizard of Gnawz’. Come enjoy the fun at this family-friendly and free event which raises funds for the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. Vote for your favorite contestants – or bribe a judge – at www.beaverqueen.org. Emcee’d by WUNC’s Frank Stasio, this is a truly weird and delightful Durham experience.

Perhaps his superhero sidekick Robin (Michael Cera) and loyal butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) can show him a thing or two.

Farm to Fork Picnic @ The Fearrington Barn

The Farm to Fork Picnic weekend culminates Sunday, June 4th with the 10th annual Farm to Fork Picnic in The Fearrington Barn. The picnic will feature up to 35 chefs producing tasting size dishes featuring local, seasonal ingredients grown by a local farm the chef is paired with. These partnerships historically result in highly creative collaborations that are as beautiful as they are delicious. The event also spotlights 14 local food artisans and breweries; each will provide samples of their products, along with makers of local wine, coffee and tea.
Live music will be provided by the Chapel Hill bluegrass band Big Fat Gap, and The Holland Brothers. For a fun keepsake, be sure to capture your experience in the ZimZoom photo booth!
Tickets for the picnic are $100 per adult, $50 for ages 12-20 (no alcohol), and kids under 12 are free.

Biking Durham’s HiSTORIES @ Museum of Durham History

On Sunday, June 18, from 1-3pm the Museum of Durham History and Bike Durham are going to celebrate Father’s Day with the make-up date for Biking Durham’s HiSTORIES, a leisurely five-mile tour through downtown Durham and the American Tobacco Campus, which was originally scheduled for May 13.

The no-cost, family-friendly ride will be led by local historian and Durham native Ernest Dollar, who will stop at various locations around town to tell the city’s more famous and lesser known stories. The ride begins and ends (with parking available) at Museum of Durham History, 500 West Main Street. Representatives from Bike Durham and the Museum will be on hand to marshal the ride and help the peloton share the road with vehicles and navigate intersections.

Please be sure to arrive a little early to sign the waiver we’re obligated to have you sign before you ride.

This is the third year of the ride, with previous tours drawing over 100 cyclists riding through downtown streets! Email info@modh.org or call 919-246-9993 for more details.
