Hillsborough Gallery of Arts hosts its annual statewide juried art exhibit featuring both 2D & 3D media. January 4-22, 2017. Opening reception Friday January 13th, 6-9pm. Awards juror Larry Wheeler, Director of the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is owned by 21 artists featuring painting, sculpture, photography, glass art, jewelry, turned wood, pottery & fiber art. 121 N. Churton St. Hillsborough, NC. Winter Hours: 10-6 Monday – Saturday, 12-4 Sunday.

On the closing night of January’s Nasty Women exhibit at The Carrack.
Suggested donation $5, all donations will go to Planned Parenthood.

At this event, 6 artists will present new work on the prompt “next steps.” The presenting artists are Jade Ashton, Lindsey Kelley Dance, Jody Cassell, Paige Welch, Nicole Lawson, and Emilie Raleigh.

For each PROMPTS event, a prompt is given. The prompt is your oyster. || Artists from any discipline are invited to create a new work/study/idea on the provided prompt and present it at the next event. || Check the PROMPTS Facebook page for the newest prompt and sign up for a 10 min slot with || The community is encouraged to attend PROMPTS events to see the artists’ responses.

Mark Gordon: Material of Invention @ Claymakers Gallery

Mark Gordon’s ceramic and mixed-media sculptures, shown in “Material of Invention,” echo ancient vessels, architectural fragments, bio morphology, or are composed of the simple, juxtaposition of three-dimensional geometries. In them, Gordon considers and develops his impressions of many modes of clay work – from brick making to primitive and contemporary pottery – that he gathered in places as disparate as the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Spain, Brazil and New Zealand. Through April 15.

A reception for the artist will be held on Third Friday.
