iNaturalist Nature Walk with ECWA @ Pearl Mill Nature Preserve
Apr 30 @ 2:00 pm

Join Chris Goforth, head of citizen science at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, to learn about the importance and use of iNaturalist, an app that lets you share your nature observations with other naturalists and scientists! Through iNaturalist you can keep track of your plant and wildlife observations, crowd source identifications, learn more about nature, and contribute to science! We will meet at Pearl Mill Preserve to learn how to use the app before splitting up into groups to make observations of the plants and animals we find. To make the most of the experience, please create an iNaturalist account and download the app onto a smartphone before the walk!

Heron Rookery Nature Walk @ Glennstone Nature Preserve
May 29 @ 7:30 am

It is time again for the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association’s annual Memorial Day Hike to the heron rookery. See one of the largest heron rookeries in the area and upwards of 100 nesting pair on this very popular nature walk! A birding expert will lead the hike and binoculars will be provided! There are two hike times, 7:30am and 10:00am.

The hike trail is a moderate 2 miles round trip. There will be scopes and some binoculars, but do bring your own if you prefer. Remember to wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toed shoes. You will walk through grasses, and ticks and poison ivy will be out. Do bring water, sunscreen and a hat. It is usually fairly warm, especially by the time you walk back.
