Nebbiolo vs. Sangiovese Wine Class @ The Fearrington Granary
Jan 19 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Two of Italy’s most noble and distinctive grapes are Nebbiolo and Sangiovese. Each has their own strong following in the wine community. Some prefer Nebbiolo, a grape that tests the balance of its tannic, high alcohol, and high acid properties while still delivering one of the most rewarding wine experiences.
Some prefer the crunchy, red fruit, herbal perfume of the Sangiovese grape. In the hands of a master it can transform into a muscular Brunello di Montalcino, or an easier drinking Chianti perfect with a hearty bowl of pasta.
Whichever grape camp you stand behind, each has a masterful history that has solidified its claim to the top of Italy’s grape varietal hierarchy.
$50 includes wine, cheese plate, service fee and tax. Reserve at 919.542.2121.

A region that has so much culture and history intertwined with its vineyards, Sicily was long thought of as yet another bulk wine region of Italy – until recently. With the advent of dedicated winemakers that have elevated the quality of wines coming from this Mediterranean island, indigenous grapes like Nero d’Avola, Frappato, Catarratto, and Zibibbo have made a strong comeback as alternatives to more well-known Italian varietals and regions.

Jura & Savoie Wine Class @ The Granary at Fearrington Village
May 4 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Why are sommeliers going crazy for these particular regions? Why are most wines from this region smell weird and funky, and nothing like the usual wines from the rest of France? The Jura and Savoie border Switzerland and share similar geographical features that contribute to winemaking styles and Alpine flavor profiles. It’s not a region that attempts to seduce a large market, but there is beauty in the unfamiliar with these wines. Find out what a clavelin is and how flor from Jerez makes a similar appearance in the vin Jaunes of Arbois in Jura in this wine class.
$40 includes wine, tasting plate, service fee and tax. Reserve at 919.542.2121.
