Families are invited to Durham for a giant kid-focused birthday party to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King on MLK Day.
Event activities include free English/Spanish story times, arts and crafts, kids’ Zumba, drumming performance, interactive activities, service projects such as a food and clothes drive benefiting Urban Ministries, and birthday cake as we celebrate Dr. King’s life and legacy in a way that kids can understand. This event is free and appropriate for ages 0-100.

Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale @ May Memorial Library (use Davis Street entrance)

The Friends of Alamance County Libraries’ Spring Book Sale begins at Noon on Friday, March 10th with a “Friends Only” day (family memberships are available at the door for only $10.00). Shoppers using a scanner opening day will be charged a $10 fee, good for the entire sale.
Open to the public, Monday-Friday from Noon – 6, Saturday from 10- 4 and Sunday from 1:30-4:30.
We have thousands of books, including large print, children’s books, a large collection of movies and music. Prices range from 50 cents to $3.00. All proceeds from the sale provide funding for projects and library materials that promote literacy in Alamance County.

5th Annual Touch a Truck Event @ Streets at Southpoint Mall

Touch a Truck is an educational community event that will provide children with a hands-on opportunity to see and touch heavy machinery and meet the people who build, protect and serve Durham and Orange Counties. This year’s event will take place on Saturday March 25th, from 10am to 2pm. Children with sensory issues are welcome to come before the event starts, from 9am to 10am, for a quieter experience.

Kids of all ages will be able to explore vehicles including a fire engine, helicopter, cement truck, police car, tow truck, ambulance, bulldozers, and so much more. Children and their families will even have the opportunity to participate in the Ident-A-kid program which includes fingerprinting and taking a photo of the child for the parent or guardian’s records. Additionally, Touch a Truck will have plenty of activities for children of all ages including dance performances, games, inflatable bounce houses, and appearances by local team mascots.
